7 Hidden Wix Features You Didn’t Know About

If you’re a frequent reader of our blog, you probably know a lot about the Wix Editor and Wix’s features. That’s a good start! With that said, while you’ve been super busy creating your stunning website, you might have missed some of our hidden treasures lurking in the shadows waiting to help you out.

The Wix platform is loaded with features that will help you create an amazing website, but we understand that some things can be hidden in plain sight. Here are the 7 best (lesser-known) gems that will take your Wix website to the next level:

1. Google Submission tool: Getting found is a few clicks away!

Whenever you create a new website, typically, you have to wait around for the Googlebot to crawl your website and add your newest content to the Google index. This process can take months, but there is no need to wait! We have provided a quick link to the Google submission tool inside the Wix Editor that will speed up this process. All you need to do is click on your Site Menu > Get Found on Google. Yes, that’s really it.

Pro-Tip! Be sure to re-submit your site each time you make a change. You want to make sure the latest version of your site is indexed correctly.

2. Customized Maps: X marks the spot

With a physical store, you have a whole different set of challenges to getting your shop found. Adding an interactive Google Map to your site will allow your visitors to quickly find your business.

Pro-Tip! You can turn on “Show Street View control” in the settings panel, to allow your customers to see your storefront.

3. Site Contributors: Two heads are better than one

As a business owner, help is sometimes needed. There is no shame in tagging in someone with more time on their hands. Site Contributors will allow specific people to access to your Editor so that they can help you.

You may also want to allow people to access your site or account if:

  • You have multiple site editors

  • You want to invite guest authors for your blog

  • You have clients that want to help design their site

Pro-Tip! A contributor only has permission to edit sites that they are invited to. They cannot access the site owner’s account.

4. Social Media Images: If you got it, flaunt it!

Is the best photo for your website already posted to your Facebook or Instagram?  Did you already shoot a great photo of your products for Flicker or Picasa? Wix allows you to import these photos directly from your social media accounts! It takes just a click to get instant access to the images you already love.

Pro-Tip! Editing an image from these networks does not affect the original image in your social media accounts

5. Lightbox Intro: A great first impression

You can add a lightbox to your homepage to welcome your customers and encourage them to explore your website. A lightbox pops up on your site to grab your visitor’s attention. They are a great way to tell your visitors an important message, ask them to sign up for your newsletter, or show them an engaging video. You can choose what your lightbox looks like and where it appears on your site!

Pro-Tip! You can see how you lightbox appears to your visitors by previewing your site.

6. Cinemagraphs: Living memories

We’ve already told you that cinemagraphs are taking the internet by storm! Cinemagraphs are GIF images that combine still photography and video to produce a stunning effect. Typically, there is no movement in the image except for one or two elements, providing a beautiful juxtaposition between the still and the moving. They are a gorgeous way to wow your visitors!

Pro-Tip! You can also upload your own cinemagraphs to your media manager to display them anywhere on your site!

7. Image sharpening: Optimization is everything

When you upload images,  they can sometimes lose their sharpness during the correction and uploading process. Even seemingly high quality, color-corrected images can sometimes benefit from a modest sharpness boost. Wix allows you to adjust the sharpness of the images on your live site. These settings can make your images “pop” a little more. You can also turn the sharpness down, if you prefer a softer look to your images.

Pro-Tip! Try each setting until you find the perfect one for you!
