Search is evolving at warp speed, and the goal is shifting to being the answer, not just the search result.


This is where generative engine optimization (GEO) comes in. Some call it AI search optimization. Others call it answer engine optimization. But the goal is the same: to optimize a brand’s online presence so that AI models like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity reference and recommend it.


“GEO is redefining how people discover information,” says Einat Hoobian Seybold, Head of Product SEO and Accessibility at Wix. “Success won’t come from optimizing for search algorithms alone, but from optimizing for how AI understands and reasons. The future of visibility starts with being part of the answer.”


Now, this doesn’t mean that foundational SEO is no longer important, it’s still key to having a strong online presence—in large language models (LLMs), too. But to make the most of answer engines like ChatGPT, you’ll need tools that help you measure and improve your LLM visibility

01. AI Visibility Overview


Wix’s AI Visibility Overview lets you see how your sites are performing across major AI platforms, like ChatGPT and Gemini, so you have a clear layout of where you stand in AI search. Let’s dive deeper into its key features: 



AI Visibility Score


The tool works by generating questions your client’s potential customers might ask an LLM. Then, it checks to see if the site is mentioned in the answer and provides an "AI visibility score" to benchmark performance.

When you click into each question, you get a full breakdown: you can see if the site was mentioned directly or just "cited" as a source, where it ranked among other answers, and whether it appeared for a branded question or a non-branded one.



Competitors By Visibility Score


See how competitors surface for the same queries. You’ll see their visibility scores, plus “Top Sources" the LLM is referencing to generate its answers. This information provides a strategic roadmap for your outreach efforts. If an industry blog is constantly being cited as a source for your competitors, that’s your cue to start engaging with them and try to get media coverage.

Brand Perception


This section gives you a qualitative look at your client’s brand's reputation through the lens of AI. It asks the direct question of how the business is perceived online and then shows you the AI's candid response, including its take on your client’s strengths and weaknesses. It’s a great way to gut-check if the brand story you're telling is the one LLMs are hearing.

Traffic


The overview also displays both bot and visitor traffic coming from the AI platform you're analyzing. You'll see how many actual site visits are coming from each LLM, plus how often AI bots are crawling the site for information, a key indicator that you're on their radar. By looking at this data, you can see whether your strategy is driving traffic and decide where to focus your efforts next.

02. LLMs.txt


LLMs.txt is a markdown file that gives LLMs a simple summary of the site's key information, making it easier for LLMs to understand your content and deliver more accurate answers to user queries. 


As Sviatoslav Pykhnivskyi, a machine learning engineer at Wix, explains, “it’s a proposed standard, not a formal one, designed to give websites a clear voice when interacting with LLMs.” Still, there are signs of wider LLMs.txt adoption, and there’s no downside in trying it. 


Wix and Wix Studio sites automatically generate LLMs.txt files if you’re on a premium eCommerce plan, with the goal of rolling it out to all users soon. The file includes key site information, like a business summary and direct links to products. It's hosted at yourdomain.com/llms.txt, and you can also view its contents anytime from the SEO dashboard.

03. AI Bot Log Reports 


While bot crawlers aren't new to the world of SEO, their role has become even more critical in the age of AI. If you want to improve your clients’ AI visibility, it helps to understand which AI bots are crawling their sites and what happens with the content they find. This is how you can help turn clients’ sites into a source LLMs will actually trust enough to cite and recommend.


Wix Studio’s SEO Reports have new dashboards that show you how AI bots are interacting with clients’ sites. These reports break down which bots are crawling the pages and how often, giving you practical insights into what's going on behind the scenes. This data helps you figure out what to do next. The AI Bot Traffic over Time report


See how often different AI bots are crawling your site, and whether they’re AI training bots or  “user-bots” triggered for a  user's prompt. It's perfect for spotting which bots are visiting and seeing how that traffic changes over time.

The AI Bot Visits by Page report


This report displays the specific pages that are getting the most  and least attention from bots. It helps you figure out what content AI is most interested in and lets you keep an eye on a site's overall crawl budget.

These reports provide the insights to guide your next steps. For instance, low bot traffic is a cue to improve core SEO, while visits without citations mean you should focus on site authority and content quality. “Like SEO, AI search isn’t a one-time achievement," Hoobian-Seybold says. "It’s an ongoing process of staying relevant and authoritative.”



04. SEO Setup Checklist


The core elements that search engines reward, like high-quality content, structured data, and a strong backlink profile, are the same signals AI models look for when they're deciding what to trust, says Hoobian Seybold. “The principles of strong SEO remain the core of being found."


Wix Studio’s SEO Setup Checklist provides a personalized, step-by-step plan for your client's foundational SEO. It's a great way to make sure you’ve covered all the on-page essentials, prompting you to write effective meta descriptions—which often double as a site's summary in AI responses.


While the checklist keeps you on track, you can use other built-in tools like the alt text generator to make sure the site’s images are pulling their weight. This process feeds directly into your GEO strategy. When AI models see that a site’s content is detailed and well-structured, it becomes a much stronger candidate to be cited in an answer.
