Submission requirements and guidelines

At Wix Studio, we’re committed to maintaining a high standard of quality. Our team carefully reviews each template before it’s published on the Marketplace to ensure that it meets our requirements and guidelines, and provides buyers with a great user experience.

Requirements

Before submitting your Wix Studio template, check that it meets all of the following requirements. If your template is missing any of these requirements, it will be rejected and you’ll have to fix the relevant issues before resubmitting it.

Design and content

  • The template must be built in the Wix Studio Editor

  • The template demonstrates strong graphic design, following principles such as contrast, layout, typography, balance, hierarchy and proportion

  • The design follows UX/UI design principles, such as usability and consistency

  • The design looks great on all devices and breakpoints, and there is no horizontal scrolling on any breakpoint caused by elements falling outside of the viewport

  • The site contains no offensive or inappropriate content, as outlined in our content guidelines. The text and visuals are inclusive, appropriate for a general audience and free from discrimination against any identifiable group or person

  • The site doesn’t use any trademarked logos, branded content or copyrighted materials such as images, videos, music or custom fonts

* We also welcome you to submit templates that deliver advanced functionality and business solutions through custom code, rather than focusing on design.

Layout and structure

  • The main structure of the site uses layout units such as sections, containers, Grid, Stack or others, in a way that doesn’t break the layout or hide content across different breakpoints

  • All pages within the template contain a header and footer, with the exception of intro pages

  • The template is free of bugs

Template exclusivity and uniqueness

The template must be substantially different from other templates already listed on the Marketplace, or free templates offered on Wix Studio. If you’re building a template based on an existing template, you must make meaningful changes to the design and functionality. These are some of the cues we look for:

  • Your codebase has meaningful differences when compared to code from other templates

  • Your template has a clear industry focus

  • Your template has inventive art direction that distinguishes it visually from other templates

  • Your template has a cohesive look and feel, for example across the index page, product and collection pages, blogs, search and cart

Disclaimer

Wix reserves the right to change and update these requirements at any time at its sole discretion, with or without a notice to you.

Wix also reserves the right to suspend or remove, at its sole discretion, any Partner or any Partner’s template from the Marketplace in the event of failure to follow or adhere to these requirements.

Best practices

Follow the guidelines and recommendations set out below for the best chance of your template being accepted.

Content and assets

  • The site content matches the business type, industry or the use case of the template

  • All text is free from spelling and grammar errors

Forms

  • Form input fields have correct name and type settings. For example, name fields should be called “name” and should not be set as email fields

  • Form input fields have visible differences between states: regular, hover, focus and error

User experience

  • The template uses a cohesive, themed design system including a color palette, typography styles and design elements such as buttons

  • All text is fully editable. Images should not contain text, as text in images is not editable

  • Links and buttons have defined hover states to show that they are clickable

  • All links used within the template work and point to a valid URL

  • Pages listed in the navigation menu or footer link to their corresponding pages

  • The template only uses default Wix Studio fonts or Google fonts

  • Each page’s URL slug matches the page name

Performance

Follow the best practices outlined in this article to optimize your template for performance.

Accessibility

  • The DOM order is organized. Learn more

  • The minimum text size value is 12px

  • The background and font colors have sufficient contrast on all devices

  • Each page has only one H1 heading, which describes the page content

You can check that your template is accessible by using the HeadingsMap Chrome extension. This extension generates a document map or index of any web document, structured with headings and shows the HTML5 outline.

Note: we ask that you do not claim or state that the template you’re selling is fully accessible. While we’re always striving to improve the accessibility of our products and services, we can’t guarantee that your template will be compliant with accessibility laws and regulations across all regions.

Security

  • When creating a template, check that you haven’t duplicated any personal information

  • If you make any changes to the default security definitions, make sure you add it to the template description so buyers are aware of it prior to purchasing

  • If you add any custom apps to your template, make sure to add a link to your own terms of use and privacy policy in the template description

Customer support

  • Partners selling templates on the Marketplace must provide buyer support to customers who purchase their templates. Make sure you provide a valid email address for support and you’re available to answer queries

Recommendations

Before submitting your template, we recommend that you:

  • Preview the template on desktop and mobile

  • Check all text for typos, spelling mistakes and grammatical errors

  • Test all links to make sure they’re active and point to a valid URL

Review process

Once you submit your template via the form, we aim to review your submission within 30 business days. We’ll keep you updated via email as your template progresses through the review process.
