Mentor Spotlight with Noa Beyo

Working in the Design Dev team, Noa shares her influences, advice, and inspirations

Shelly Peleg

Your name and team you belong to.

Noa Beyo, Wix Design Dev.

Tell us about your work. What is your current position?

I׳m a designer in the Design Dev team. Our team is responsible for the internal branding at Wix. My work routine includes creating designed assets for all guilds, international sites and events so that in each brief I experience different worlds of design From Web Design to print, art direction and branding.

What’s the first thing you do when you get to work in the morning?

Nothing special, I grab a little snack, say hello to my colleagues, and start working.

What do you think is the most underrated characteristic in a good designer?

I believe that the most underrated characteristic in a good designer is being messy. While it may seem chaotic on the surface, it often indicates a creative and free-thinking mind. In the process of work, there's always an expectation for order and organization, but I think that chaos is an important part of creation, at least for me. If I work in a tidy manner, mistakes may not occur and I believe that sometimes, the greatest magic is found in mistakes, leading us to new directions we hadn't considered before.

What do you do when you feel stuck or frustrated in your creative process?

Whenever I feel stuck or frustrated in my creative process, my go-to solution is to take a shower. There, I can quietly think without any background noise. The best solutions come to me while I'm in the shower. But if I'm at work and don't have time for that, I consult with colleagues or teammates to find new approaches and share the challenges I'm facing.

What was one failure in your creative path that you now appreciate?

For two years, I tried to get into design studies without success. It was a painful failure, accompanied by a lot of tears and a feeling that maybe I wasn't good enough... Therefore, I began researching other career options. In this search, I realized that I couldn't see myself doing anything other than design, which led me to Minshar College. I think that same failure eventually gave me higher motivation, belief in myself to prove that I am capable, and also led me to studies when I am more mature and prepared for. Apparently, if I had been accepted in the first year I tried, I wouldn't have reached where I am today.

Share something that inspires you that has nothing to do with design?

From a very young age, I've been drawn to the world of music—album covers, music videos. I've always been curious about the behind-the-scenes of videos clip that interested me and tried to understand how this world operates. The ability to tell a story through a song or music video always inspires me, and I always love to explore and discover the true meaning behind the lyrics of a song, especially when the meaning surprises us compared to what we thought.

Which design trend / theme / persona are you obsessed with recently? And/or which are you sick of?

I've been obsessed with the gradient trend for quite some time now. I'm particularly drawn to the aesthetics of color transitions. They add depth and dimension to designs, allow me to play with colors, and create a sense of movement that instantly captures attention, making designs feel fresh and appealing.

In general, as a designer, I love to explore and push existing boundaries to create designs that convey an experience. What I adore about design is its ability to be dynamic. As a designer, I enjoy the opportunity to work in different and varied fields, where each project is like a playground where I can stretch limits, learn new things, explore, and create a fresh experience.

Thank you Noa!
