Mentor Spotlight with Noam Ramati

Senior designer in the marketing studio, Noam shares her influences, advice, and inspirations

Your name and team you belong to.

Hey, my name is Noam Ramati. I'm a Senior Designer on the Wix.com team at the Marketing Studio.

Tell us about your work. What is your current position?

My role is to inspire and motivate our users from the moment they see anything from Wix, regardless of the stage of their journey.
I focus on creating and redesigning Wix.com pages which involves branding, creating layouts, graphic language, interactive thinking, image making and much more.

What’s the first thing you do when you get to work in the morning?

Grab coffee and hug my friends :)

What do you think is the most underrated characteristic in a good designer?

Making amazing designs isn't a quick task, it demands a lot of patience, communication, and exploration of creative alternatives. I think a good designer should have a relaxed attitude to design and the ability to adapt to any challenge.

When a designer is given a new and complex brief, the key lies in being comfortable with the unknown. I believe it’s all about going with the flow, allowing the design process to come organically before reaching the desired result.

What do you do when you feel stuck or frustrated in your creative process?

The perspective of fresh eyes can be necessary for me in overcoming creative blocks. Having someone else look at my work sometimes can bring innovative ideas and insights, or simply a different way of looking at the problem that I didn't think about.

In case it doesn't help, stepping away and returning to the design with a fresh mindset often leads me to more creative and effective solutions.

Share something that inspires you that has nothing to do with design?

Even though I don't consider myself a spiritual person, for as long as I can remember I have always found myself drawn to astrology and zodiac signs. Knowing that I'm a Leo provides me with a sense of identity and belonging which enhances my understanding of myself and the world around me. I also enjoy opening tarot cards as I find it offers insight into my current life but also brings me hope for the future.

Which design trend / theme / persona are you obsessed with recently? And/or which are you sick of?

Playful design is my go-to trend choice. Adding fun and personality into designs through bold color choices, unconventional typography, shapes, and interactive elements allows for a unique and engaging experience. This encourages me to push boundaries and invites the audience to interact and explore while giving memorable and enjoyable moments that hopefully will bring smiles to the viewer's faces.

Who or what has been the biggest influence on the way you think about design?

One of my biggest influences was The Memphis Design movement that began in 1981 in Milan. The movement’s playful patterns, the geometric shapes of Art Deco, the color palette of Pop Art, and the 1950s kitsch inspired me with unconventional and daring approaches to design aesthetics.

What's the best advice you've received - design related or not?

Remember, you'll eventually crack this brief, trust yourself to figure it out! :)

What would you do if you weren’t a designer?

When I was younger, I was drawn to the stage and studied theater in high school. I had thoughts of becoming an actress, until my dad told me it’s hard to make a living from it. It turned out for the best because I feel like I’m in the right place for me.

Thank you Noam!
