After an exhaustive search through the forums and videos, I finally had to admit defeat and put in a request for 'help' setting up a database search function. 
As soon as I did though I actually stumbled across a possible solution, and as such advised those that had answered my call for help that I may not need it after all.

I received the standard replies from them all, EXCEPTING Jonathon, who went way above my expectations.... by offered (without obligation) to take a quick look at my code to make sure that it was setup correctly and I wouldn't experience any functional difficulties.

Jonathan made the whole process of building the site stress free.  He instructed me as to what he needed, pictures, product listings, prices and other specifics.  We spoke about time frames for completion and advertising and shipping options, and he saved me a lot of cash with his knowledge of what is available for free.  He is very timely in his steps to finish a project and an active participant in the presentation of the product pictures and placement.
