Built by Engineers Who Trade
Obsidian Ledger was founded by quantitative engineers who spent a decade building execution infrastructure for tier-1 hedge funds and proprietary trading desks
Why We Built This
The gap between what institutional capital needs and what financial technology delivers
Obsidian Ledger emerged in 2021 from a simple observation: the firms moving the most capital were operating on infrastructure designed for retail speed and retail risk tolerance. Founders Henrik Voss and Amara Okonkwo had spent the previous 12 years building low-latency execution systems for firms managing billions in algorithmic strategies.
They watched those firms cobble together fragile integrations across incompatible APIs, accept custody solutions with single points of failure, and absorb millions in slippage because liquidity access required manual coordination across venues. The legacy providers offered either consumer-grade tools dressed up with enterprise pricing or bespoke systems that took 18 months to deploy and couldn't scale beyond the initial design parameters.
Obsidian was built as the system Henrik and Amara wanted to use: modular infrastructure where every component was designed for the failure modes and performance requirements of institutions operating under regulatory scrutiny at high frequency. The first client went live in April 2022. 16 months later, the platform processes over $840M in daily transaction volume with zero unplanned downtime and sub-microsecond execution certainty.
