Multilingual SEO

It is important for sites with more than one language to have good SEO for each individual language to ensure that it is found on search results for all of the languages.

Remember to localize your site in each language to tailor it to the geographical locations. For more information on localization, see here.

Multilingual SEO Tips

These instructions are written for a bilingual site, but they also apply to sites with three or more languages.

1. Choose one language as the main language, which should be the language of the site's home page. Our tips will help with both languages in regards to SEO, but will help the main language more than the secondary.

2. Search engines recommend using only one language per page. This means that all of the content of a given page should be in the same language, including text, image titles and alt text, meta tags, etc.

3. It is best to link each corresponding page instead of having one universal link. That is, rather than having the same row of flag buttons set to appear on all pages of your site, and which link to the home page of each language, it is preferable to have a different row of flag buttons on each page, which link to the corresponding page in each language. For example, the About page in English should link to the About page in Spanish, rather than to the Home page in Spanish.

4. To help build SEO power to each language separately, you should consider adding external links from other websites that have the same language. For example, a Spanish page on Wix is recommended to have links to external websites in Spanish only.
