    Walk-Through: Creating a Multilingual Site

    The following article is designed to walk you step-by-step through the process of turning any site or site template into a multilingual site.

    Important: If you are using the new Editor (2015), click here.

    Step 1: Duplicate Your Pages

    Note: Only duplicate the pages that should appear in different languages. If all of your pages should appear in different languages, duplicate all of your pages.
    1. Click the Pages icon on the left side of the Editor.
    2. Click the Settings icon next to the first page that you'd like to duplicate.

    3. Click Duplicate at the top of the Settings and SEO panel.

    4. Enter the name of the duplicate page.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Repeat this process for each of the pages that you'd like to duplicate.

    Step 2: Translate Your Pages

    1. Click the Pages drop-down menu at the top left of the Editor.
    2. Select the first duplicated page.
    3. Translate all of the page's content into the relevant language.
    4. Repeat this process for each of the pages that you duplicated.

    Step 3: Create a Menu Using Buttons

    Important: It is not possible to display a different menu on different pages of your site using the Menu element. Therefore, in order to create a multilingual site, where the translated pages have a different menu to the original pages, you must create the menu using buttons.
    1. If you already have a menu on your site, click the menu to select it.
    2. Click the Delete icon.

    3. Click the Add icon on the left side of the Editor.
    4. Click Buttons & Menus.
    5. Click Button.
    6. Select the button that was added to your site.
    7. Press Ctrl + C (CMD + C on a Mac) or click the Copy icon at the top of the Editor.
    8. Press Ctrl + V (CMD + V on a Mac) or click the Paste icon at the top of the Editor.
    9. Repeat step 8 to create as many buttons as you need for your main language homepage.
    10. Select the first button.
    11. Click Settings.

    12. Enter the page name under Button Text.

    13. Click inside the box under Link to.

    14. Click Page.
    15. Select the relevant page from the drop-down menu.
    16. Click OK.
    17. Drag the button into place in your site's header.
    18. Repeat steps 10 - 17 for each of the buttons that you created.
    19. Make sure that none of the buttons are set to show on all pages. Repeat the following process for each button:
      1. Select the button.
      2. Deselect the checkbox next to Show on all pages.
    20. Repeat this process on each of your site's pages. On your language pages, make sure to add the buttons in the relevant language and link them to the corresponding pages.

    Step 4: Adding the Wix Multilingual App

    By using the Wix Multilingual app, you can set your site to redirect visitors to the relevant language page, according to their browser language. Keep in mind that the app is not available for all languages.

    1. Click the Wix App Market icon on the left side of the Editor.
    2. Type Wix Multilingual in the search bar and click the search icon.
    3. Select Add to Site next to the Wix Multilingual app in the search results.
    4. Select the app.
    5. Click App Settings.
    6. Click I did it next to Duplicate Pages, Translate Pages and Create a Menu.

    7. Note: If you have not yet completed these processes, go back to Step 1: Duplicate Your Pages in this walk-through.
    8. Click Start next to Redirect Pages.

    9. Click the Edit icon next to the language that you'd like to change.
    10. Click the drop-down menu to select the relevant language.
    11. Click the drop-down menu to select the home page for the language that you've selected..
    12. Click Save.
    13. Note: Click Add Languages to add additional languages.
    14. Select the Redirection Settings tab.
    15. Click the drop-down menu to select your default language.
    16. Select whether visitors should be redirected based on their browser. This is the default setting. If you select Use your default language... your visitors will still be able to access your language pages by clicking the flag icons on the Wix Multilingual widget.
    17. Select the Language Picker tab.
    18. Customize the of the app by setting the following:
      • Flags: Click the toggle to choose between hiding or showing flags.
      • Name Style: Click the toggle to choose between showing the compact language names or the full language names.
    19. Customize the widget's text using the following options, available for each of the text elements:
      • Click the Font drop-down menu to change the font, size and style.
      • Click the Color drop-down menu to change the text color.
    20. Customize any of the widget's elements using the following options:
      • Click the Color drop-down menu to change the color of the element.
      • Drag the slider to change the opacity.
