I am a mixed-media and digital artist with a passion for art, books, deep conversations and seaside adventures with my three favorite men (ages 6, 8 and 43). With both a Bachelors of Fine Art in Graphic Design and a Master’s of Education in Teaching, I spent the better part of my adult life trying very hard to be a grown-up with a traditional job.
After the birth of my two sons, my new-found mama-love released me to follow my heart, reclaiming the artist that I have always been. Today, I revel in mixed media messes, making heartfelt connections with others through art and words.
For a creative person like myself, Wix is easy and fun to use because it’s all design and no coding. I don’t get tripped up by the technical stuff, because there is none! Designing websites with Wix is awesome because I can focus on the aesthetics and usefulness of the site…the templates are top notch too, and super easy to customize!
Using Wix I can seamlessly brand my look to run across my website, blog and other collateral materials. Because designing with Wix is very intuitive and easy, I can continually freshen the look, add new content and keep my website up to date — there is nothing hindering me from making the most of the web! Updating the site with new work is quick and easy, so I spend more time creating and less time tinkering with administrating my website.
The main challenge I face is doing awesome work, work that will be recognized and sought after. There are so many fabulous illustrators and artists, many of whom have been creating far, far longer than I have been, so it’s difficult to stand out and garner a following.
With a professional website presence on Wix, all of the technical barriers have been removed. I can focus on communicating the joy and passion I have for my work. Lilla Rogers of Lilla Rogers Studio states, “People buy your joy” — this resonates so deeply with me and it’s what I put all of my effort into on my website. Hopefully, this genuine love and joy comes through to my potential customers and licensors via my Wix website.
Using Wix, all of the hard, techy stuff is taken care of and solved for me. I get a bunch of beautiful, fresh templates to work from, and I get to tell others that I use Wix and this creates a wonderful opportunity to share my website and illustrations with authentic enthusiasm, because I really do love Wix! 🙂
My top tips for up-and-coming illustrators would be: Be tenacious about good old-fashioned hard work. If you quit and get defeated 100 times, get up 101 times. Work twice as hard and twice as long as you think you need to. Be willing to put in the time to become an expert at your craft. Figure out what it is you really, really, really love to do, to make, to create. In other words, find your true joy and lean into it! And third I’d say, be courageous and bold. Ask, seek, knock. It’s nail-biting scary, but you’ve gotta keep sticking your neck out there…at least, these are the things that I tell myself everyday!
