Member Case Study: $0 to $2,000 /month as a Freelance Web Designer

In this post, I'm celebrating Andy Walker, a Freelancer X member.

He went from starting freelancing in June 2022 to now earning over $2,000 /month from client work.

What's awesome is his progression:

He started small, focused on recurring revenue (MRR = Monthly Recurring Revenue)

Here's his approach and strategy:

He's taking initiative and following up on a lead who turned him down:

Boom, $175 MRR:

2 months later, $1,000 MRR:

10 days later, he's at $2,000 MRR:

If this doesn't inspire you, I don't know what will 🙂

There are so many things we can take away from his journey, but I'll let him describe it (so far):

13 months ago, I decided I had had enough. I wanted to take control of my life. I wasn't enjoying my 9-5 job. I wanted to be my own decision-maker. I want to choose when I work, where I work, and how I work.
I searched around to see what high-level skills I could teach myself. I was always curious about coding and web design and knew the leverage a career with that skillset could bring. I decided it was now or never and jumped in head first.
I spent a year coding but was unable to find a job, but I also knew I had the skills to meet the needs of small to medium-sized businesses. I built a small portfolio and started cold emailing businesses. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was able to land a few clients.
I didn’t really get serious until I joined the Freelancer X community with Kyle. He introduced me to the Website as a Service (WaaS) model, which changed everything for me. A low monthly fee for web design to build a recurring revenue stream.
Joining the community has been extremely valuable.
I must have sent 500-1000 cold messages before landing my first client. It is very easy to get down on yourself, but you have to understand it is a game of numbers. You’ll never land a client if you stop sending messages.
The power of online communities, or what I refer to as digital neighborhoods, is life-changing. Never before have you been able to opt into a selected peer group with the same goals and motivations as you.

Amazing...

And thanks Andy for the kind words 🙂

A few takeaways I'd like you to take from Andy's journey:

✅ Start small

✅ Follow-up on leads

✅ Embrace (and accept) rejection

✅ Attitude and persistence is underrated

✅ Join a community holding you accountable

✅ Effort. Andy didn't email 10 leads and quit. He emailed 1,000+ leads and kept going ✅ Set goals for yourself and share them with the community. This gives you extra motivation and a sense of commitment and help when you need it.

I'd ❤️ to see you inside the Freelancer X Community where you can follow Andy's journey, learn with like-minded others, and grow your own freelancing business.
