Wix and It’s Nice That invite you to an inspirational evening of new ideas and lively conversation about creativity for good. Hear from four amazing creatives, designers and educators who focus on issues like inclusion and activism to generate social change. Afterwards, our panelists will be joined by It’s Nice That editor Matt Alagiah for a meet and greet, so be sure to stick around after the discussion.

Gail Anderson

Creative Director at Visual Arts Press at The School of Visual Arts

Gail Anderson has taught at The School of Visual Arts for over 25 years, where she is incoming chair of both the BFA Advertising and Design departments. She is also a partner at Anderson Newton Design. Gail serves on the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee for the USPS, and is on the advisory board for Poster House in NYC. She is the recipient of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Lifetime Achievement and is an AIGA Medalist. She is a co-author of 16 books on design, typography and illustration. Gail’s work is in the collections of the Library of Congress and the Milton Glaser Design Archives at the School of Visual Arts.

Hana Tanimura

Designer at Google Creative Lab

Hana Tanimura designs innovative experiences in both the physical and digital worlds at Google Creative Lab in New York. Her work has won D&AD Pencils, Lovies, FWAs, Webbys and a Grand Prix at Cannes. Named a "Woman of Tomorrow" by Campaign Magazine, Hana is a strong advocate for the pursuit of a more open and inclusive playing field in the creative industries and beyond.

Roderick Stanley

Editor and Writer

Roderick Stanley was editor of the influential British fashion and culture magazine “Dazed & Confused” from 2005-2012 and has written for a variety of other magazines and newspapers. Two years ago, he launched Good Trouble, an annual broadsheet newspaper about the intersection of arts and culture with protest and activism, designed by Richard Turley. The first issue won a D&AD award in 2017, with the second issue winning “Magazine of the Year” at the 2018 Stack Awards.

Shaina Garfield

Designer, Researcher and Advocate

In her early twenties, Shaina Garfield was temporarily disabled. This new reality gave her a unique perspective on the world and a greater sense of empathy, not only for her community, but for all minority groups. Shaina holds an Industrial Design and Sustainability degree from Pratt Institute and has exhibited and spoken around the world, including at South Africa’s Design Indaba, Dutch Design Week, Dubai Design Week and The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.
