Filtered Gallery Display

I would like to have a gallery link to dynamic pages, which I have figured out how to do.
What I would like also to have, on the page where the gallery is displayed, is a filter option, whereby the user can filter the results to see only certain images in the gallery.
For example: If you are a graphic designer and you have a portfolio of your work displayed in a gallery, but you would like to have the visitor filter the results to show only “recent works” or “branding” or “web design” in a way where they click a button or have a dropdown menu and the gallery changes to show only the filtered items.
Hope that makes sense…
Thanks!

Hi Anat,
I believe this thread will be useful for you.
Feel free to paste your code here to consult.
Good luck!

Thanks!
Since I don’t know code, is there a way you could break the code down for me, as I only need the filter option (and not the search box). What segment of the code would I need?

And another question (if I may), I’m using the full-width grid gallery and I would like some of the items to be images but some are text items with a color background, is there a way to add them to my collection so they show properly?
This is what I would like the gallery to look like: https://www.anatbelinson.co.il/newportfolio (this is without connecting to a dataset). Right now I have no idea how to add the text items so that they can connect properly to the dataset.

Hi Anat,

You can copy and paste the example for dataset filter from here

Regarding your second question - what you are describing is pretty specific therefore will have to write some code.
One way of achieving this is to add either a text or an image to each collection record, and to create a function that iterates the records and checks if an image is present or not, then it sets the records to a gallery using gallery.items .

Thanks… I think I’ll pass at this time. This code-level is way above my pay grade.
I’ll just screenshot them as images, and hope for the best.
Toda Raba!

Hi Anat, any change you can show/share your outcome?
I want to do exactly the same with my portfolio;
I want to use buttons of the different topics (architecture, interiors, product design, etc) which, upon clicking show only the related projects in my gallery.
In the meantime I’ll keep banging my head against this wall of info…

Hi Fred, I feel your pain… I decided to not use the gallery for my portfolio, mainly because I got user feedback saying it took nearly 10 seconds to load.
I ended up showing my portfolio in strips and columns, whereby each column is linked to a dynamic page. I skipped the whole filtering thing for now. Maybe once I have more items in my portfolio I’ll try to give it another go.
Just in case you’re curious, here’s the final result with the columns (I know it’s in Hebrew, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out  ) www.anatbelinson.co.il/wix-portfolio

Dear Anat, thank you for sharing your site and experience.
I think I’ll follow your example and avoid a slow loading page and me studying code…

Dear team Wix,
I hope you provide some templates and/or easy solutions to use this function in the near future.
I believe it is a much needed feature and I don’t think it should be only available through coding?!

I second that

Hi Anat,

Sorry for waking an old thread, but I just saw that you managed to add a filtering option to your portfolio at the end. Any chance you can provide some guidance?

Hi Yuval,
I wish I could, but I had a guardian code-angel build this page for me. Unfortunately it’s waaaay above my pay grade. You’re welcome to talk to me בע״פ, I might be able to elaborate a little…
