I defined a reference field in one table with a ref to a second one, only to find out that the drop down in the Content Manager cannot be simulated with a drop down on a form (unless coding).
So I wanted to change its type to text and do it the old way. This changing from ref to text does not go well. It shows ´broken reference`, underneath it says something like 'Type is Reference. Click here to change to Text' (after the change of type and confirm window). If you do, you get a very long reference string. And if you delete that and just type in text, it keeps bugging you that the reference is not found.
EDIT: after I copied everything to Live, I got a warning that this coll references another collection and that I maybe have to sync that one too. But there IS no more reference. I deleted the whole filed and added a new one with a different name. Looks like there are still traces of the old ref filed around.
EDIT 2: the referenced table seems to keep its def a a referenced table even after the above: it still shows a padlock in Content Manager. It is impossible to now connect this table to a dropdown list (with the new field). That is: at run time there are no entries. At design time setting the properties for the connected dataset goes OK.
EDIT 3: no longer sure about EDIT 2. Permissions were wrong, but I made a new collection to get rid of the problem, so I can no longer see.
