Can you have member's sign up with a phone number instead of email?

I would like to let them enter an email in their profile but would prefer their login information to be a phone number and password.

I have a similar challenge, for most of my customers; phone number is more commonly used than email. In fact all have phone numbers and about 10% only have emails. Can you please provide a login api that allows for phone and password?

is this still valid argument after 1 year of ? Can we still not create an account using only phone?
