Website Makeover: Empowering Wix Users to Create Better Sites

Ever since day one, our vision here at Wix was to enable anyone to create a website that requires zero knowledge of code and looks stunning. With 77,000,000 million users (and counting!), we’re happy to say that things are going according to plan.

We also realize that different people have different requirements and expectations when it comes to creating a website. For some, keeping the process as simple as possible is a top priority. With our selection of spectacular templates and with an uber intuitive website editor, they get exactly what they need. But what about users who want more than just to create a website, those who aspire to become expert webmasters? How can we help them reach their goal and create a power website for their business, art or service?

To address this question we launched an education program called the Wix Lounge, which trains users with little or no tech experience to become skilled and knowledgeable website owners.

How Does The Wix Lounge Work?

The program takes place at the inspiring space of the Wix Lounge, NYC. For the duration of four months, dozens of students get together every week for instructional sessions, workshops, brainstorming and networking. The program is designed to achieve two goals:

1. Mastering basic and advanced concepts in creating and maintaining a stellar online presence. To reach this goal we have a line up of incredible guest speakers holding weekly workshops on topics such as online advertising, advanced SEO, branding and more. The guest speakers include leading experts like Ramon Ray,  Michael Rovner,  Kathy Yeu and Deborah Magocsi along with other industry professionals.

2. Launching a powerful, revamped website – done by the students themselves with the support and guidance of Wix staff and experienced web designers. We start with the most basic element of sketching a layout and build up to the finest usability and design details. By the end of this route, students have completed a full site makeover that will boost their online presence significantly.

How The Wix Lounge Is Changing Lives

When we started The Wix Lounge, we knew we would be helping Wix users to create better-looking and professional websites. We didn’t realize, however, that the impact of the program would go so far beyond that. In discussions with the recent graduates of the program, they shared how the training and guidance they received at the Wix Lounge significantly empowered their online presence and their business.

We’ll let the graduates speak for themselves. Be sure to check out their websites to see their amazing achievements:

Nazira Sacasa, Social Media and PR Strategist

We were so impressed with Nazira’s new website that we awarded her with a special gift from Wix.  She credits the program not just for helping her achieve this fantastic new look for her site, but also for teaching her how to write better copy, conceptualize her business model and represent her brand more successfully. The site she created is one she is proud to promote and show off to people.

Malou Zuidema, Teaching Artist and Illustrator

When Malou joined the program, she was fresh off the plane from Australia, looking to establish herself in the big city. Joining the Wix Lounge gave her the jumping board she needed. Malou wanted to make a website that told her story in a compelling way and represented her art and her vision accurately. The Wix Lounge, she says, pushed her even further to rethink her goals for the site. In the redesign process, she began to think more clearly about her own brand identity.

Emily Miethner, Founder and CEO of FindSpark

Emily used to have a site that didn’t really capture her evolving career. When she joined the program, she aspired to create a website that truly showcased her talents and professional experience. Not only did she achieve this goal successfully, her improved site is getting her loads of traffic, and she was even contacted for interviews from SELF Magazine, USA Today, and Yahoo Finance.

Sharon Unis, Experiental Designer

One of the things Sharon liked most about the program is how simple and straightforward it all felt to her. Beyond the fantastic work she did on her website makeover, she found that the program was extremely valuable in helping her to form a clear business development plan. Now she has a beautiful website, a smooth business flow and a solid branding strategy.

Robin Williams, Online Store Owner

The change that Robin noticed in her website’s performance after completing the program is real. With the new design, customers experience a better connection with her products, which leads to longer visits as well as an increase in sales.

Tari Bohnert, Cultural Architect

The challenge that Tari faced when she started the program was to create a website that depicted the person behind the professional and showcased all aspects of her creativity. She worked with the guidance of a Wix Pro Designer and came up with just the right look. Now, she says, her new website is raising her credibility and how she approaches people with her brand.
