Cool New Feature: Change Background Per Page
Welcome to the wonderful world of Wix, where there is always something amazing being cooked up by our development team. Recently, they revealed a new feature that we simply can’t get enough of. Ladies and gents, let us introduce you to the fantastic new Change Background Per Page feature!
This great new addition to the Wix Editor lets you have different backgrounds for each of your Wix pages, whether that be three, or fifty. It’s a great way to change up the look of your website, and like all things Wix, it’s oh so easy to use.
Let’s dive right in:
The Technical [Not So] Nitty Gritty
Adding this feature to your site is pretty intuitive, but we still like to give a good thorough step-by-step walk through. Here’s how to apply a unique background to the different pages of your Wix site.
NB: When customizing your page background, the changes that you make apply to the page you are editing only.
From the left side of the Editor, click the Design icon > click Background
> click Customize Background > click Change Image
> click Apply to Other Pages > select any additional pages that you want to apply this same background to, if any
> click OK
If you want to have different backgrounds for your other pages, simply go to those pages one by one and repeat the above steps. You can switch between the pages of your site by selecting them from the drop down Page menu in the top left corner of the Editor.
Some Notes on Best Practices
When using an image: It might go without saying, but if you’re going to use an image as the background of your website (no matter what the page) it needs to be high quality. If the image you want to use isn’t high-resolution, it’s going to look grainy and your site will look less professional as a result.
We suggest you make use of the ‘Preview’ button so you can see how it looks. Do important parts of your image get covered by the elements on your site? Do you want to drag those elements somewhere else on the screen, or do you want to use a different image?
Tip: When you’re in the Customize Background area of the editor, you have the ability to play around with the scaling and position of your background image. This can be really handy in getting your background to look just the way you want it to, without having to shift other elements of your website.
When using a textured background: Another great option for a background can be to go with a more graphic option. The Wix Editor is chock full of choices that range from calm and soothing, to bold and heavily textured. Whether you choose flamingos or a soft wood background, it’s important to make sure that it not only goes with the other elements on your site (such as fonts, icons, and more) but that your text doesn’t get lost in the design. For instance, if you have slate gray text and choose a dark blue background, you’ll likely lose a lot of your messaging due to poor visibility.
Tip: Do your best to keep consistency between your pages. While this feature can be great fun, you definitely don’t want to abuse it and end up having pages that look like they’re all different websites.
