There’s no one way to create a masterpiece of a website. Like any true art form, variety is part of what makes web design so interesting. With so many different elements at your disposal, website creators have countless opportunities to make something beautiful.
Our team looks at thousands of Wix websites every day, and we’re constantly blown away by what people create. With so many Wix sites making us do a double take, we thought it’d be a good idea to not only showcase them, but share tips on how you can emulate some of these cool concepts on your own site.
When great images and great text come together, it’s a thing of beauty. Take one look at Butcher & Sons’ website, and you’ll see what we mean. At first glance, you may not even realize it’s in Spanish because it’s so visually lovely. The combination of cool images and cool text will make even a vegetarian rethink their dietary decision.
How to make it happen: Using a combination of boxes with images and colors, you too can play around with the Wix editor to achieve this result. It’s a good way to create a layout that not only looks light and airy, but is a visual knockout. If you like this style, this template is a great starting point.
It’s a common dilemma. You want your visitors to scroll, but you also want them to navigate through your site with ease. A great solution is going with a fixed header that stays in place at the top of the screen. The Dare To Wonder website is a terrific example of how to win with this feature – their three main tabs are always in view, no matter how far down you scroll you can always acess them. And by keeping it to just the three main tabs, they keep their site’s beautiful design intact.
How to make it happen: Going with a fixed header comes with some responsibility – if it’s going to be displayed on all of your pages, you’re going to want to make sure that it’s functional and well designed. If you’re looking to give the fixed header a go, check out these easy-to-follow instructions.
Everybody loves a good GIF. They add a dose of fun to a static page by introducing an interactive element. However, if not used properly, this trendy item can become a major distraction. Jaxx was able to grab viewers’ attention the right way by using GIFs that make sense with what he’s trying to get you to do: press play and listen to his cool tunes.
How to make it happen: Adding a GIF is as easy as adding an image. From the left side of the Editor, click the Add icon > click Image > select the .gif file from My Images or click Upload Images to upload it from your computer > click Add Images. Easy, right?
There is something reassuring and kind of satisfying about an interactive website. Did you know? You can make elements on your Wix site change when visitors hover over them, creating a happy little surpise that reacts to their presence. Naomi’s website brought the wow factor in so many ways, but she gets super high marks for the clever hover effects she added that change her image from black & white to color. Trust us – once you hover over one of her images, you’ll need to hover over each and every one of them.
How to make it happen: You can do so many things with this, but the starting point remains the same. From inside the editor, click the Add icon > Buttons & Menus > Image Button > Double click on the image button to bring up the settings > choose your Default View image and your Mouseover View image. You can move your image buttons around your page to form a gallery like Naomi did, or go a totally different route.
Here’s how it looks in the editor:
Landing pages generally serve a single focused objective: get people’s eyes on information and get them clicking through for more of it. That’s why landing pages that perform best tend to be uncluttered, aesthetically pleasing and to the point. The Rolling Stones Sweet Summer Sun event LP is a shining example of how to get it right. All the info and media you need to understand what’s being promoted is right there, in an airy and pleasant design. Plus, having Mick Jagger say a few words can never hurt anything.
How to make it happen: Making beautiful and effective landing pages with Wix is easy! You can read about how to do it here.
When in doubt, less is always more. Some may say that minimalist websites are a fad, but this fad doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Landing on a website that is jam-packed with tons of text, images, flashing features, banners, and more can be overwhelming. Going with a clean and nice layout is a much better way of communicating the right message. Take one look at Wix user Chip Painting website and you’ll see what we’re getting at. Isn’t it clean, pretty and professional? Don’t know about you, but we suddenly feel like repainting something.
How to make it happen: Start by writing down the basics. What information does your site absolutely need? Put together a short list and avoid adding too many additional features and details that might distract visitors from the important aspects of your site. You can always add more, so start with a nice clean slate.
