Theta Makes a Difference
Local Service
The Zeta Upsilon chapter makes community service and philanthropy events fun for our sisters, UTD students, and the community at large. From working with CASA, to mentoring young women, we consider service to be one of the most important aspects of our fraternity. This past semester, chapter members served the community by volunteering more than 400 hours.
Aside from our involvement in chapter-sponsored philanthropy events, individual members also pursue personal activities. Currently, Thetas serve as mentors in the Richardson school district, volunteer with the Special Olympics program, and give their time on the Up Til Dawn and Relay for Life planning boards.
National Philanthropy
Rock the CASA
Kappa Alpha Theta's national philanthropy is Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), an organization that trains volunteer advocates to serve as a voice in court for neglected and abused children.
Zeta Upsilon puts on a number of events to raise money for CASA and volunteer personally for the Collin County CASA chapter throughout the year. Every year, chapter members give up their time and help the Collin County CASA chapter with their golf tournament and Voices for Children Gala Benefit.
To learn more, visit the national CASA website.
In the fall, Thetas decorate canvas tote bags for the children of CASA to use for their personal belongings when they are going back and forth to court dates or during visits with family. In the spring, we have also sponsored Valentine's Day Love Notes in the UTD publication, A Modest Proposal.
Rock the CASA is Zeta Upsilon's largest philanthropic effort supporting CASA. Each year, the Thetas welcome musicians for a benefit concert to raise thousands of dollars for CASA of Collin County. Rock the CASA 2007 was our most successful yet, raising over $4,000 For CASA of Collin County and $1,000 for the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation!
Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation
The Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation supports our education programs as well as our national philanthropy, CASA. The Foundation's scholarship endowment program is one of the largest in the Greek community. In 2007, the Theta Foundation awarded more than 170 scholarships totaling more than $500,000. Zeta Upsilon actives and alumnae along with local members of the Plano Alumnae chapter have been beneficiaries of both scholarships and educational grants.
Created by Thetas for Thetas, the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation is dedicated to raising money through our members and friends to strengthen our fraternity via scholarships, educational and leadership opportunities, and the support of sisters in times of need.
