Why Become a Theta?
Selfless, patient, poised and strong: these words all describe qualities of a Theta sister. She is a pageant queen, a Student Government Vice-President, the first girl on the dance floor, and the leader of an economics study group.
Theta offers her members a wide variety of experiences, shaping each sister as she grows socially, morally, and intellectually. The support and love we find in Theta have given our members the strength they need to lead on campus and succeed in their lives beyond college.
Theta provides each member with a family of loving, caring women who share the same values and uphold the same precious ideals. In Theta, we have found our closest friendships, our home at UTD, and most importantly, ourselves.
Pledging Theta
Kappa Alpha Theta's new member period is six to eight weeks long and filled with fun and fraternity education. During this period, new members meet weekly to learn about Kappa Alpha Theta's history and ideals and to prepare for their initiation into Theta's beautiful sisterhood.
Throughout the new member period, new Thetas are guided by their Mentor through Zeta Upsilon's Mentor Program. The Mentor Program is a system in which an older member is paired with a new member during her new member period to teach the new member more about Kappa Alpha Theta and its ideals, as well as help them with school through designated study hours each week.
During the new member period, every new member is paired with a Star Sis. A Star Sis is a temporary Big Sis that allows the new members and the older members to get to know each other so that they can decide who they want their Big and Lil to be. In a very special ceremony prior to initiation, each new member receives a Big Sis with whom she will share a special bond for the remainder of her life in Theta.
Theta's new member period is a positive and uplifting time that encourages each new member to become actively involved in the Zeta Upsilon chapter. Activities including learning Theta songs, spending time with their Star Sis, and the annual Serenade before Initiation make the new member period a welcoming and enjoyable introduction into Theta membership.
