Worked with Patti LuPone--what a crazy, wonderful woman! Will never
forget Annie Get Your Gun, Ravinia .
June/July 2010
Spent my summer in Highland Park,
IL with The Music Theatre Company
creating new works--really inspiring!
Zach Zube grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, studying music by way of piano lessons, using his tee-ball stand as a pretend microphone, donning old mop heads as wigs, and restaging boy-band choreography for high school talent shows. Today, his life is not much different, except for the fact that he has managed to earn a living with those skills.
A member of Actors Equity since 2009, Zach is a working actor, dancer, and choreographer in the Chicago area. Since earning his BFA from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2006, he has had the opportunity to work onstage at Ravinia with Patti LuPone, Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook, Marriott Theatre Lincolnshire, Theatre at the Center, Light Opera Works, and Bailiwick Repertory. He is also an active company member with the newly emerging Music Theatre Company in Highland Park in aspects of performance and creation. Additionally, Zach is an artistic consultant for The Bricklayers Theatre Company. Favorite shows include Thoroughly Modern Millie (DLO), Annie Get Your Gun (Ravinia), Cats (TATC), High School Musical (MTL), The 9/11 Report: A Bi-Partisan Musical Fantasia (TMTC), and La Cage Aux Folles (TATC) among others. This past year brought about opportunities for Zach to grow as a choreographer and director—a path that is very intriguing to him for the future.
As a dancer, he had the pleasure to work with contemporary choreographers David Dorfman and Li Chiao-Ping in college. These experiences opened his eyes to the many ways one can tell a story. They also propelled him to pursue work professionally after graduating. He spent a season with Li Chiao-Ping Dance in Madison, WI, where he was intimately involved in creating a new piece as well as learning a piece from the company's repertoire. His involvement culminated in two performances—one in Madison and one at the Julia Morgan Center in Berkeley, CA. He also spent a season as a company apprentice with Hedwig Dances in Chicago. Since, he has not pursued modern dance professionally, though finds great inspiration in classes with Paul Sanasardo and Molly Shanahan. These experiences hold a special place in Zachs heart.
In his time away from performing, Zach choreographs the musical productions for Marian Catholic High School, and has also done so for Encore! Theatre in Libertyville. Working with teenagers is very inspiring and humbling for him, and while challenging, the reward of seeing their growth is awesome.
To balance the sometimes-stressful life-style theatre can impose, and to maintain better health, Zach began pursuing the practice of yoga. His passion led him to earn a certificate to teach. This aspect of his life is very fulfilling and continues to unfold new mysteries frequently. Visit zachdoesyoga.com for more information.
Looking to the future, Zach is excited by the prospects of continuing his work as a theatre artist in Chicago and other parts of the country and one-day furthering his studies at graduate school. He is intrigued by the intersection of movement, storytelling, and voice as multi-disciplinary performance, but wonders where the boundaries of the form lie. With great respect for the classical form of musical theatre that has come before, Zach looks forward to challenging those conventions and hopes audiences will welcome such work.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - Drury Lane
"...the sweetly naive Gideon (beguiling Zach Zube) and his love, Alice (the adorable Katie Huff), a perfect match."
-Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times
"The emotional relationship between the vulnerable pair of Gideon (Zach Zube) and Alice (Katie Huff) works exceedingly well here and makes that part of the material feel fresh, warm and vital.
-Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune
"Youngest brother Gideon is embodied by the impressive triple threat actor Zach Zube, the standout among the many triple threats in this production. He works all over town, but really comes into his own with this performance. His tenor voice is lovely and pitch-perfect, his ballet technique seriously studied and his acting right on the money."
-Paul W. Thompson, BroadwayWorld
"I’ll nominate Katie Huff and Zach Zube to represent the outstanding ensemble."
-Dan Zeff, chicagolandtheatrereviews.com

Thoroughly Modern Millie - Drury Lane
"...and some gorgeously relaxed movement from an unusually sophisticated male chorus."
"Director William Osetek has gathered a slew of sensational actor-singer-dancers."
-Hedy Weiss, Sun Times
"The sixteen women and men of the ensemble turn in very fine work in this production, executing Tammy Mader's tap-flap-happy choreography with aplomb and panache."
"Drury Lane's superlative Thoroughly Modern Millie is actually a case when the home-grown production is better than the national Broadway tour."
-Scott Morgan, Windy City Times
Funny Girl - Drury Lane
"Adrian Aguilar, Zach Zube and Nicole Hren shone among the ensemble. The chorus of singing dancers performed impressively, especially in the faux-"Follies" numbers showing off snappy jazz and tap choreography by Matt Raftery."
"The ensemble of eight executes the snappy vaudeville-inspired dances of Matt Raftery with precision."
-John Olson, Talkin Broadway
"...Matt Raftery's lively choreography and an excellent, hardworking cast."
-Colin Douglas, Centerstage
Annie Get Your Gun - Ravinia
"They smartly crafted the second act show-stopper 'I Got The Sun In the Morning' which was nailed by the underused ensemble of many of Chicagos top players."
-Tom Williams, Chicago Critic
Man of La Mancha - Theatre at the Center
"Choreographer Stacey Flaster and Dance Captain Zach Zube deserve special mention for the art and technique with which they rendered the abduction and ravishment of Aldonza; the way in which this violence was stylized made the scene both easier to watch and harder to watch in all the right ways."
-J. Scott Hill, Chicago Stage Review
"Scott Stratton, Zach Zube, Phil Higgins, Peter Durkin and Peter Vamvakas (along with Tierney) bring manly, lusty danger to their roles as muleteers, gypsies, guards, and, well, everyone else."
Hello Dolly! - Theatre at the Center
"Ed Kross and Zach Zube as Cornelius and Barnaby have great chemistry together."
-Michael J. Roberts, BroadwayWorld
High School Musical - Drury Lane/Marriott
"The ensemble for this production is small in numbers but all are young veterans who know how to play the audience and with a young one, this is very important.
What they lack in size, this small cast makes up for in talent. [Elana Ernst, Sean Hunt, Brandon Koller, Melanie Brezell, Laura Scheinbaum, Robin Childress, Jackson Evans, Travis Turner and Zach Zube] They are all dynamite."
-Alan Bresloff, Steadstyle Chicago
Crazy for You - Theatre at the Center
"Similarly, the actors playing the cowboys put forward fleshed-out characters."
La Cage Aux Folles - Theatre at the Center
"Choreographed by Rudy Hogenmiller, La Cage pops with one Follies Bergere-style extravaganza after another. As far as ensembles go, the Cagelles (and every one deserves mention: Chip Payos, Zach Zube, D. Eric Woolweber, Jackson Evans, Cara Salerno, Stephen Stockley, Brandon Koller, Kelli Morgan, Kent Haina, Cassandra Liveris and Nicole Miller) unite to create a bona fide jaw-dropper of kinetic grace, infectious energy and I-can't-believe-they-just-did-that-without-gravely-injuring-themselves athleticism.
-Catey Sullivan, Windy City Times
"La Cage aux Follies is just that treat, a slick production with dazzling costumes (by Nikki Delhomme), mind boggling choreography (by Rudy Hogenmiller) and a cast that is outstanding."
-Al Bresloff, EpochTimes
Scrooge, The Musical, Theatre at the Center
"...this is, nonetheless, a cast oozing with talent and good humor."
-Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune"
