Kappa Phi Lambda is a CULTURAL and SERVICE-based Asian American but NOT ASIAN EXCLUSIVE interest sorority in the United States with locations in 29 campuses in the Northeast, Midwest, Midatlantic and South. Kappa Phi Lambda is one of the fastest expanding Asian American interest sororities in the United States with 1,600 sisters nationwide.

Founders
Seven extraordinary women came together to establish Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. at Binghamton University on March 9, 1995. These seven founders: Elizabeth Choi, Karen Eng, Rei Hirasawa, Hee Cho Moon, Chae Yoo Park, Samantha Somchanhmavong, and Connie Yang united with a single vision of providing women with the chance to use their pride in their heritage to become leaders of society. The sorority was conceived through the notion of an organization that would provide a culturally sound and educationally inspiring grounding for Asian-American women. These seven women envisioned themselves laying the cornerstones of what was to become a culturally revolutionary and unprecedented organization. This cultural based sorority was to unite young women of differing heritages and encourage them to make use of their strong voices and thoughts. This sorority is open to women of all nationalities and backgrounds who want to learn about, actively speak for, and represent Pan-Asian culture. Held together by the bond of sisterhood and striving to educate each other and the rest of the community, our founding mothers not only channeled Asian-American awareness through voice, but also by action. They taught each other about strength and ambition while discovering their own true unparalleled identities in the process. These first sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda also extended their hands to the community through charitable works of both service oriented and philanthropic natures. By doing so, they were able to make a real and impacting difference in the world around them. All the while, they were given the opportunity to educate others about the beauty and complexity of Pan-Asian culture. Kappa Phi Lambda formed to provide the campus, and on a large scale, the society, with yet another option for learning, and another outlet for activity.
We, the sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporated, strive to strengthen Sisterhood amongst women by providing service and promoting cultural diversity to our members and our community, thus securing the bond of kinship for posterity. Kappa Phi Lambda exists to further educate individuals about Pan-Asian culture, while keeping our own identities. We aim for academic excellence, keeping in mind the importance of education and learning as the key to strength, awareness, and fulfillment.

Why i joined kappa ~ When I found out KPL was a new sorority on campus, I wanted to be a part of something new. (At that time there was only 66 sisters) I had enjoyed the RUSH events that I wanted to continue with the process. Since the sorority was still small, I was able to pretty much meet and know everyone which was awesome. Now to see how much we have grown and how far we have gone, it amazes me. I'm happy I joined when I could and to be one of the first classes. (However, it makes me miss it soo much, I want to go back to college)
My best memory from KPL? Hmmm... I think one of our Asian Nights. I think it was 6 of us sisters and we had this awesome glow sticks and step routine ... We practiced soo hard and it was just sooo much fun! lol. I'm sure every semester sisters still do it and the good times are so memorable. :)

Why you joined Kappa Phi Lambda: Kappa Phi Lambda was (and still is) the one and ONLY recognized sorority on St. John's campus. I went through rush and met the most amazing girls who eventually went through the process with me and became my kickass line sisters.
Best Memory: My first road trip with my line sisters to Cornell, experiencing our first snow together during that ride, and singing Britney Spears while on the opposite side of the road.

Why you joined Kappa Phi Lambda. ETERNAL SISTERHOOD is the best thing that can happen to someone. Becoming part of Kappa Phi Lambda made me realize no matter how bad my day is at the end of the day I have my lovely sisters there for me. No matter what kind of trouble I am going through a phone call, text message, IM and they will be there for me until the sky falls down. A sister is someone who is there for you through the good times and the bad. A person who you love and hate at the same time and no matter how much you argue with them you always end up forgiving them. A sister is someone who you spend all your sad, hurtful, crying, cheerful, boring, and happy moments with. It is truly someone you cannot live without. This is the reason why I joined Kappa Phi Lambda. It is an once and a lifetime experience!

Why did I join Kappa Phi Lambda: I joined because I wanted to do something different than others and have more memories for college. I also wanted friendship that lasted longer than college which I did find, it was sisterhood.

Why you joined Kappa Phi Lambda: Before meeting the Kappas at SJU, I never wanted to join a sorority. Initially I held the stereotypical view of sororities that most people hold, but the sisters at SJU showed me otherwise. I realized that there was so much more to a sorority than I imagined and I wanted to be a part of that.
Best Memory: Hard to pick out one, but probably performing at lipsync. It was my first time ever dancing on a stage in front of so many people. Extremely nerve-wracking, but so worth it in the end being able to get over my fear.

Why I joined Kappa Phi Lambda: I love the sisterhood aspect of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority. All the sisters are so sweet and real and I wanted to be part of something meaningful. It's also a great way to meet new people.
Best Memory: The sleepovers with my line sisters were the best. We had a lot of fun and it was great bonding time! I got to know my line sisters better and it made us notice how much we love each other and how much we need each other!

Why you joined Kappa Phi Lambda: When I first came to college, I was really out of the loop and I never knew what to do with my time. As the term progressed, I realized that I really wanted to be more involved on campus as well as get to know more people. When I first met some of the sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda, we clicked really fast and I knew that I wanted to be a part of the bigger picture and the eternal sisterhood.
