Quiggly's Clayhouse, Inc. is owned and operated by Kirby & Kristi Carmichael. Kristi is a spitfire from East Texas, and Kirby is a philosophizing potter who really does like long walks on the beach, and surfing. At Austin College they were college sweethearts. Kirby majored in philosophy and Kris majored in international studies. They both graduated in 2003. Their journey into the art world began with Kirby's interest in finding a hobby in college. After various art classes, Kirby realized his talent on the pottery wheel, while Kristi began a painting class. After graduation, Kirby continued his pottery education under the study of an Italian maestro living in Deruta, Italy, “the birthplace of the ceramic renaissance.” While Kristi worked for her father at Daniel Boone's Grill and Tavern (he is named after his ancestor, Daniel Boone, and opened a restaurant in Tyler, TX www.danielboones.com). Kristi realized eight months was just too long without Kirby and decided to join him in Italy, where she began studying the age-old processs of Italian Majolica painting on Kirby's pottery. The couple-in-love realized they had a good thing going- Kirby could focus on making pots, and Kristi could decorate them. They were so excited about their life together, Kirby popped the big question at the Hard Rock cafe in Rome! After returning from Italy in 2004 engaged to be married, Kirby and Kristi had planned a two-year engagement complete with Graduate school and full time employment... Well, plans are made to change- and they did! Kirby and Kristi decided their two-year plan was FOR THE BIRDS! After all, waiting two years to get married was just too long, so the love-struck couple eloped to Fiji for a sunset wedding on the Pacific Coast of Vanua Levu. COOL HUH!? They had a traditional Fijian wedding, complete with tribal dancers and a Kava Kava ceremony at the end! As soon Kirby and Kristi returned to America, they began creating their new life together. On July 26th, Kristi’s birthday, they signed our lease on Quiggly's storefront. Woah! After building-out the studio and figuring out what it really takes to open a business, Quiggly's doors finally opened for business on October 1, 2005. Now, over two years later, Quiggly's is still going strong! With the help of Tina and David, new programs are being realized every month and a retail program is in its infancy- destined to bring wonderful finished products to your virtual door! And now, the best for last... Kirby and Kristi have a new baby! Kenadi Reagan Carmichael was born October 1, 2007 (Quiggly's second birthday)! She is the most best part of this whole story, and a blessing to be thankful for. Please, join the Quiggly's family for a day and learn something new! And thank you. We wouldn't still be here if it weren't for everyone out there who has visited Quiggly's and seen the difference! We're unlike any other studio you've ever been to! Go Quiggly! -Kirby, Kristi and Baby Carmichael info@quigglys.com 972-234-2644
