Our Mission Statement:
Our purpose is to work as a team and educate our community by showing them the economic value of helping the enviroment and conserving energy.
We are a small class with big plans for everyone's future. We are doing projects that are going to affect our school and community for a long time. Some of the projects are bigger than others, but all are important to our school.
Check out our Projects page to hear about the projects we have done and the ones we have planned.

To start the game we will line up the cans at one end of the gym, there will be a tape line in the middle of the gym and we will have a big garbage can on the other side of the starting line there will be a big garbage can with all the recycling products in, the students will have dig in the garbage can with the recycling products in and race to the correct recycling bin for each product, the top three students that have the most products recycled will be rewarded with a prize.
The home kits are a project that is meant to reach the people in our community. The home kits are going to include:
a reusable bag
1 CFL lightbulb
We plan on distributing the home kits at local grocery stores and banks, on two different days so we reach a number of people in our community.
Our classes first project, Black out Day, was a day to minimize the amount of energy our school uses in a single day as well as challenge students and faculty to using minimal electricity for the day. We found that most of the teachers were good about keeping the lights off, while others were a bit more resistent. Our class turned of the lights in every hallway and class room (if the teacher was willing) at 8:30 a.m. on October 28 and turned them back on at 3:00 p.m. After Black out Day we had a survey to see how the students and faculty reacted to the day. Most teachers didn't think it effected their classes and students were VERY excited to hear that we were thinking about ahving another "Black out Day."
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
By: Chitayen Vue
One of the major problems of the world today is global warming. The main and most important contributor to global warming is the human population and their carbon footprint. Over the past couple decades, our carbon emission has skyrocketed. To really understand why we should reduce our carbon footprint, we must first learn what and how. We have to learn what carbon footprint is and learn how it contributes to global warming.
Carbon footprint is the amount of carbon that we, the people of the world, release into the earths atmosphere. This affects the world greatly. The earths atmosphere is very similar to a greenhouse. The carbon that is released into the air is heated up and trapped into the earths atmosphere causing a rise in the temperature. This rise in temperature greatly affects the North and South Pole. It is not a very high increase in temperature, but just a gradual increase in the temperature affects many aspects of our lives and many parts of the world. Just this small increase in temperature is melting the polar ice caps.
We should reduce a carbon footprint to help stop global warming. The amount of carbon in the air is said to be the biggest factor for global warming. If reducing our carbon emission will help to reduce global warming, we should do it. Global warming is a very big issue whether people want to accept it or not. Its out there.
Global warming is not just going to affect you; it is going to affect your children the next generations to come. If you do not want to do it for you, do it for your kids, and your kids kids. Reducing our carbon footprint will make for a brighter future for our generation and for future generations to come.
Our YES! class collected 98 pounds of christmas lights. We put the information about collecting the old christmas lights in our school anouments. The purpose for collecting the christmas bulbs us to recycle them. We had a bin in our science classroom for all the christmas lights. If you were to throw away your old christmas lights (recycle them) then replace your christmas lights with LED lights. They save you money and dont burn out as quickly. An idea to recycle your light bulbs instead of bringing them to a place to recycle them .
You can also take your Christmas lights to a local recylcing center. Go to www.holidayleds.com for more information. At some recycling centers you can bring everything from christmas lights to regular bulbs. There are two steps to recycling your lights:
1. Send old lights to HolidayLEDs.com with ytour address listed below. After you send them the lights and information they will send you a 25% off coupon.
2. Purchase new Christmas lights (buy the LEDs!) at HolidayLEDs.com
You can make jewelry, lamps, wreaths (with larger Christmas lights), and also into an ornament for your christmas tree. Different types of jewelry that can be made from used Holiday lights are, necklaces, earings, and rings. To make a wreath: use the large holiday lights and twist string through the metal kpart of the strand. Ornaments are a fun and easy way to reuse those old holiday lights that are taking up space in your attic or basement. You can fill up the light bulbs with beads adn tie string to the end of the light bulb. After you have decorated the bulbs the way you like them, hang them up for your enjoyment. There are many other different ways to recycle your lights bulbs. So when you think about throwing away your bulbs, dont. Recycle them.
