Our mission is to bring back to Galena some of the rich beer brewing traditions lost to Galena over the past 80 yearsDuring the 1800's there were no less than nine fine breweries in Galena, all of which closed during the prohibition eraNow as a first step in our mission, we have brought back to Galena two beer labels of its own (first time in 80 years) These are now available all over Galena and Jo Daviess County. Our expectation is still to open for business in June 2010. We will keep you updated, so be sure to check back for project progress and future event planning

The building has been purchased (227 North Main Street - see above right picture)

The fermenting tanks have been delivered, and the Brew House equipment will be delivered next week.Construction is underway and on schedule.The floors are poured, the walls are going up, HVAC and plumbing are almost complete. This week (04/05-04/09)the walls, tuck pointing, plumbing, electrical and HVAC installations should be complete.Also this week our brewhouse and glycol chiller will be showcased at the Craft Brewers Conference and Brew Expo America in Chicago by the supplier: Premier Stainless Systems.

Born from the desire to see a revitalized beer brewing tradition in Galena IL, which was the home of nine breweries back in the 1800's, Warren and Kathy Bell launched the Galena Brewing Company in early 2009. The Galena Brewing Company delivered its first beer to restaurants and retailers in Galena in the spring of 2009. The first beer styles delivered were the Fevre River Ale, a classic Bavarian hefeweizen, which was followed in October 2009 by the Miner's Treasure, a warm caramel amber ale. While these ales are currently brewed in Black River Falls, WI by the Sand Creek Brewery to Galena Beer Company recipes, we are currently working hard towards the target of opening our own brewery and pub in Main Street, Galena in Summer 2010. We welcome the citizens and guests of Galena to join us in this quest to return this worthy city to its rich traditions of beer brewing.

The Owners: Warren and Kathy Bell

Kathy hails from Le Claire, IA where she was raised as a farm girl.
