Wood Bourne, Ny
It's our world, but Fae, Vampires, Lycanthropes, and other manner of preternatural and mystical creatures have always been known to exist.
Dragons were hunted almost to extinction and now hide, mermaids swim the seas in ever decreasing numbers, ghouls haunt the unconsecrated cemeteries, and animators raise the dead on a nightly basis for profit to settle wills and estates.
What Wood Bourne is...
Wood Bourne is an Roleplay in Second Life, based on the Anita Blake and Merry Gentry universes combined. The book series we base our roleplay on are written by Laurell K. Hamilton.

We the people of Wood Bourne, in order to form a more perfect roleplay, establish rules, insure a peaceful environment, provide for the safety of our inhabitants, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Anita Blake Roleplay of Wood Bourne.
These are not new rules, they are commonly known truths that makes RP a better experience for everyone. This helps people to not feel left out, attacked, and wary of RP situations. No one should be made to feel bad about actions done or words said that were misunderstood, taken out of context, or gossiped about to everyone else.
We, the Admins, are here to try our best to make Wood Bourne a fun and enjoyable RP environment to the best of our ability. If you have a problem with another RPer in the sim go immediately to them to solve the issue. If the issue can not be resolved PLEASE type out a notecard and send it to one of the Admins and we will do our best to help resolve the issue. If you have a problem with one of the Admins come DIRECTLY to us and the problem will be discussed and solved. We are still human and make mistakes from time to time though we would wish we were perfect.
If you have ANY ideas that can help improve the Wood Bourne RP in any fashion write out your idea in a note card and send it to one of the Admins and we will discuss the idea.
If you have a GROUP RP idea (Group RP: One that involves the whole town of Wood Bourne) write out the idea in a note card and send it to an Admin and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Administrative Structure
These people are the ones in charge of each Race/ Species class. You send your Character cards to the one that fits your Character. General Rules and Common Courtesies
Learn them LOVE them
(OOC- Out of Character IC - In Character NPC - Non Player Character)
A. Original Characters Only ... No carbon copies of Characters from the books that just have different names. Officials will Determine if your character is infringing on copyright restrictions.
B. Weapons are props only. If you are caught firing a weapon you will be warned. The next offense is a banning offense. We do not use meters here, so weapons are not needed.
C. No God mod, power, or meta gaming - Respect Limits IM the person you want to put a spell on, use your vampiric powers on, or other such things and get their approval FIRST No killing or maiming without OOC Agreement. Respect RP limits. They may not always be posted in profiles so ask FIRST
D. No children avatars. This is NOT NEGOTIABLE If your character looks too childlike, or acts like it, you will be given one warning to change. Then ejected.
E. All applications must be approved by an Admin before you can RP here. Please send your application to the proper Admin for the fastest approval possible. Check to see if one of the Admins is online. Admins have the right to refuse a card's contents, suggest alterations so that your character fits into Wood Bourne easier.
F. Sex happens in IMs even though we employ Sex balls above 300 meters in Sky boxes ... not the open or on the ground. Brief nudity is fine. (Example, Shifters stripping before a shift. Most will not do this in public however and will do this out in the woods.)
G. Respect ... we are adults. Don't run around randomly Nude, No OOC insults. OOC Insults will be handled swiftly and harshly. Depending on the offense up to ALL players involved may be banned permanently. Do not argue with the Admins (Deities, Officials tags are the Admins) Their word is final in ALL things.
H. Alts are allowed. You may have up to five regular playing Alts in Wood Bourne. Admins MUST be notified of ALL of them however. If you want to bring in an Alt as a character, temporary or otherwise, please note this in the Character card along with who your main Alt is.
Rules About Alts -
a) The identity of Alts is PRIVATE.
b) If you want to know if an Alt is a certain person, you are to ask ONLY the Alt OR the person that you believe to be running the Alt
c) It is THAT person's decision whether or not to inform you if you are correct. They do NOT have to tell ANYONE who their Alts are save for the Admins. We ask for this information ONLY to keep a count of how many you have running in the sim. We will NEVER give out other's alts without their permission.
d) If you are told by the owner of an alt who their main account is, you WILL be expected to keep that information a secret.
e) If you are NOT told by the owner of an alt who their main account is, you WILL NOT hound/harass that alt/main account OR anyone else about the identity of the account.
f) ANYONE who is caught hounding/harassing ANYONE ELSE about their main account/alt identity will be BANNED from the sim and if the situation is bad enough a harassment charge WILL BE FILED.
These rules will apply to EVERYONE. Ignorance of these rules will NOT be an excuse for getting away with harassment of others. If you feel you are being harassed by ANYONE for the identity of your alts or main account, PLEASE INFORM AN ADMIN IMMEDIATELY and have a log of the conversation.
I. Faction leaders determine your Character Advancement. Through RP performance and time spent in Sim role playing. If you are not IN SIM RPing often, you will not advance.
J. We have an Avatar Rendering Cost limit in Wood Bourne of 4,000 K. The Admins may occasionally raise or lower this number. Please keep your ARC Below this number to reduce the lag in the sim as much as possible. Occasionally being above that is fine, but over the number and you get a warning, a chance to fix it. (It's usually your hair, or a very primmy skirt or jewelery.)
If it is not resolved, or you keep coming back and having to be warned, you will be kicked from the sim, and could face being banned for griefing.
If you find it is your hair, several of the Admins have good places for very nice hair that doesn't add thousands to your ARC. Feel free to ask for help
To find your ARC -
CTRLALTD Brings up the Advanced menu
Advanced Menu Rendering Info Displays Avatar Rendering Cost
The number will appear above your head.
K. If you are in the group you should be able to set down an object to RP with but please when you are done, Pick it up Keep the land clean or you will lose rights to use your own props
L. If someone is walking around or shopping etc and doesn't have an RP tag on, Unless they ask you a question, let them be... Do not involve them in the RP storyline at all. This is to avoid confusion, and keep you all from getting harassment notices filed against you.
M. OOC information stays OOC. Unless you are told something IC please do not bring OOC information IC. You get a warning that you have done this, and a chance to repost or modify your post to accommodate this. Repetitive breaking of this rule will get you ejected.
N. No Radars allowed. This includes the ones included in some viewers. (Emerald for example) These lag the sim, along with your own client. You will get one warning. Then be ejected.
O. If you are not roleplaying that you are breaking into someone's house, please do not enter the houses or apartments.
P. If you want to be a part of this RP, we will ask that you dedicate to a minimum of 2 DAYS A WEEK to Roleplay within Wood Bourne. This means you are to RP an ENTIRE SCENE WITH ANOTHER PERSON OR OTHER PEOPLE IN WOOD BOURNE. Posting once in group or local chat and then leaving is NOT RPing. Also merely walking around the sim and not speaking to ANYONE doesn't count. We will be watching for those who do not RP for more than 2 months at a time. You will get a warning from us if we haven't seen you around.
Q. In RP we have order, before RPing you way into a scene, wait for a minimum of two posts so the events happening will influence your post. If there is 2-4 people RPing then remember the person you posted after, because they are posting in a certain order and you will fall in line behind the person who posted after. If there at 5 or more people RPing in a scene then it is typically a free-for-all with people posting in group conversations.
R. Rules are subject to change as new issues arise. The group will be notified via the notices, so please do not turn this feature off Ignorance is not an excuse.
Common Courtesy Rules
The Admins have been watching and talking with various people through the sim. There have been a few things we have noticed and feel need to be addressed.
A) ALL RPers can NOT spend all of their time RPing with ONE person.
--If you want to RP only with oe person then it is easy enough to go on Yahoo IMs or any other service and do that there. This is an RP TOWN SIM. Each person is part of a larger COMMUNITY. Despite the personalities of the character of Wood Bourne that may make a character fear or dislike another person or species, it is NOT viable to limit RP.
B) ALL RPers can NOT simply stay in a home they have on sim and rp only there.
--This means, that rps can still happen in homes but they should not happen there exclusively. The ONLY places where RPs can happen that a person can simply sit in place and have other characters arrive are: the grocery store, Sanctuary Bar, and Fang Bangers Bar. Part of RPing in this sim is interaction within the town.
C) OOC MEANS OOC
--This statement not only applies to the journals which are posted on the forums, info spoken in IMs that another character could simply NOT know without in depth rp or being in an rp that all ready happened or is happening but to the actual lives of the people BEHIND the avatars. By this, I mean that if you find that an argument or misunderstanding that happened between you and another RPer in the sim or even one you had in real life is changing the way your character reacts with another in a negative way (such as avoiding RP with particular individuals or becoming generally rude in RP and/or IMs with another) then it is advised you take a step back from RP and handle whatever situation you are in.
D) Talk with the RPer in IMs if your actions will influence them personally.
--In this instance, if you have an rp idea that ONLY influences a few people or one person, then you need to IM those involved and ASK them if you can rp out this idea you have. Make sure the tell them how it MIGHT influence them. Give specifics. If the RP is allowed do not deviate from the plan unless you have agreed upon it with the people involved.
E) In real life, you do not have a mini map
--Yes, it is very cool to have a little map that lets you know where everyone is in the sim you are in. However, it is asked that you either close that map completely or do your best to avoid using it in rp UNLESS you "called" a character in the RP or are going to meet that character in a pre-arranged place. In RP, it is best to act as you character would act. As you walk through town, IF you come across someone you have to determine if your character would stop and notice that person or simply ignore them. If you are looking for RP, then even if your character may ignore another one for a specified reason, then you can type out your actions as you walk by the person and wait for their response.
F) Read the others posts carefully.
--In rp, when someone is entering or exiting a space, read what they typed closely. It is best NOT to notice someone till they have stated that they walked into the room. When a character is leaving an rp, look carefully to see if they typed "they exited the bar" or if they typed "they turned to head for the doors". The first response indicates that the person has left the area and you can RP accordingly. However, the second response indicates that the person is STILL in the room waiting for any responses to their post.
G) Real world laws apply
--Just like in real life, there are laws in Wood Bourne that the police uphold. The laws upheld by police are the same for Wood Bourne. If you steal something and get caught, you will spend time in jail. If you kill someone, you will go to jail for a few months. The only time these have a twist are for lycanthropes or vampires. Vampires if they use their powers on a person or kill someone they are subject to be killed by a licensed Vampire Executioner. If a shifter attacks a human or lycanthrope, they might be sent to a facility. If a shifter kills a human or lycanthrope, they can be legally killed. If you are considering committing a crime, do NOT assume you will always get away with it and you can not get angry for being caught and placed in jail. The sentence will be determined by the crime per the Chief of Police. If the sentence seems unfair, you may contact an Admin.
MASS HYPNOSIS:
Some vampires are able to exert a hypnotic effect over an entire crowd. Mass hypnosis does not have the same permanent effects as "deep rolling". Mass hypnosis is not a widely known vampire power, and has its limits. This form of "mind control" is the only one currently considered legal.
RolePlayers Creed
1. I will maintain the illusion of the game by staying in character whenever possible. I will withhold out of character comments until absolutely necessary and even then I will whisper or ICQ them to the other players.
2. If I discuss the game with other players out of character, I will not allow my character to be influenced by this knowledge without express permission of the other players. I will take the time to allow my character to learn these things on his or her own during the course of the game.
3. I will separate myself as a player from my character as much as possible. While I understand that a lot of myself goes into my character and because the game is so very intense often real emotions will be drawn from me as a player, I also understand that my character is not me.
4. If I am not in the mood to play, I won't interrupt other people's games by coming into it out of character. I will find others who are not in character and go somewhere meant for out of character discussion.
5. I will not use my character as a vehicle for racism or bigotry. I will not use my character to promote child pornography or bestiality. I, as a player, understand that there is no room in the real world for such things and will, to the best of my ability, not let it seep into the virtual world as well.
6. If I, as a player, feel that my character has been treated unfairly or that another character has overstepped the bounds of their abilities, I will approach the other character's player privately and discuss the situation in a calm adult manner and try to come to a resolution or compromise.
7. I will accept the hand that is dealt me in the game, understanding that it is a game and it's not about winning or losing, but about playing.
8. I will not allow setbacks in the game to be blown out of proportion. If I am overly emotional about what is happening, I will step back and not play until I can compose myself.
9. I will not carry grudges against fellow players. My character might not like another character, but again, I am an adult and understand that they are 'characters' and not the player that portrays them.
10. If I find that I simply can not get along with another player, I will avoid playing with them. But I will do so in a way that does not draw attention to this and I will not badmouth or otherwise slander the other player as such actions only makes myself look bad.
11. If my character is killed, I will obviously grieve for the loss, but I will also view the situation as an opportunity for me to grow as a player. By starting anew with a fresh identity, I will be able to leave all the negatives of that character behind - any grudges, dislikes or just plain bad habits- and take away the good, thus making my next character even better and more interesting.
12. I, as a player, will keep an open mind and allow people to play their characters the way their imagination leads them regardless if their interpretation matches that of some book, guideline...or creed.
_______________________________________________________
1. Limits:
Can be anything you do not want to happen to your character during role plays. Example: No mutation, no death, etc. Should you chose to have "No Limits" be prepared to Role Play without limits.
2. Control:
Remember that you can only control your own character. Not those of others, unless you receive the other person's OOC permission. On the same note, you can kill your character at any time. However, you can not kill other players characters at any time without their permission.
3. Consent:
All RP MUST be based on OOC consent. No one will be forced to participate in a Role Play against their consent. Each player should have their character and some basic information about that character in their profile picks. Somewhere in that profile pick, or even in a seperate profile pick, you should include your personal limits.
4. Going AFK:
It is considered courtesy to notify the players in the RP when you will be afk for an extended period of time. Time is valuable When you are in the middle of a RP, please do not go AFK for an extended period of time if it can be avoided. Five minutes AFK is not a concern... but if you are AFK for 20 minutes or more, people will begin to get frustrated and it will be difficult for you to get back into the swing of the RP.
5. Information that is gleaned OOCly:
Profile information- all profile information is considered OOC, and not usable ICly unless revealed to your character.
Titlers/Tags- information shown in titlers does not mean you automatically know that information and is OOC knowledge, same goes for group tags.
Hearing emotes through walls- this information is NOT usable.
6. Adjusting a character's actions if you find out some new information OOCly:
Example: Learning from a friend, that your IC enemy has one huge secret flaw does NOT mean you lead RP in a fashion to exploit that flaw. You must have IC knowledge in order to RP it.
7. Using certain types of attacks/defenses based on strengths and weaknesses the character knows nothing of.
Example: Using fire against a Vampire, when your character is unaware that the other person is RPing a Vampire, except by titler, etc.
8. Acting on/ acquiring technical, scientific knowledge, or equipment that the character is not, or could not be, aware of.
9. Adjusting a character's behavior towards other players based on real life relationships with others.
10. When using to emote, be sure that you are using it to describe what others will actually see, hear, or otherwise observe, and not just what you might want them to know about your character's intentions.
Legal Status of Supernatural Beings:
In 1993, vampires had been granted limited human rights in the United States. This is apparently quite novel, and has resulted in a significant number of vampires traveling to the US. It has also caused many vampires to explore the possibility of living legally and openly.
Because of the difficulty in holding vampires, lycanthropes, or witches in prison pending trial, they are entitled to very little legal process. Once a judge is convinced that a supernatural being has used magic to kill, he or she may issue a warrant of execution without trial.
Witches are executed within 48 hours of conviction of causing death by magic, without delay or appeal.
A number of supernatural actions are illegal or even capital crimes, including:
Vampires feeding off a human against their will (with or without hypnosis).
Vampires using their powers on an individual. Using on a group of people is fine as this does not "roll" them as completely as individually does.
Vampires turning a human into a vampire against their will.
Vampires turning a minor into a vampire. (This is also a Vampire Law, as most children do not handle the transformation mentally and have to be killed.)
Lycanthropes intentionally infecting another person, this is always illegal without consent, with consent it varies on a state to state basis.
Discrimination against lycanthropes is technically illegal in most states but common in practice. In some Western states, bounties are paid for dead lycanthropes (if proved by a postmortem blood test). Many lycanthropes hide their status for these reasons.
A Lycanthrope or Vampire convicted of rape. Usually a Lycanthrope cannot rape someone without killing them, though it has happened and is usually dealt with internally by the shifter community. If convicted by human law it is an automatic death sentence, usually carried out by the RPIT or Preternatural branch of the police, or an Executioner / Federal Marshall, Bounty Hunter, or Vampire hunter.
Law Enforcement:
RPIT-
Supernatural crimes in the St. Louis region fall under the jurisdiction of the Regional Preternatural Investigation Taskforce, also known as the "spook squad" or "RPIT" (pronounced "rip-it"). RPIT is dangerous and low status work, and the division is therefore staffed largely with police officers who have offended their superiors.
Vampire executioners-
Some people are licensed as vampire executioners and are authorized to kill vampires pursuant to a warrant of execution. Most vampire executioners only kill vampires, but Anita and some others also investigate and combat other supernatural beings.
Vampire executioners are very rare. In Bloody Bones, Anita states that she is only aware of eight living vampire executioners in the United States, two of whom are retired. Vampire executioners named in the book include:
Anita Blake
John Burke
Larry Kirkland
Manny Rodriguez: (Presumably, Manny is one of the two retired executioners Anita is thinking of).
Theodore Forester (aka Edward, revealed as of Obsidian Butterfly.)
Bounty Hunters-
In many states, it is legal to hunt lycanthropes for bounty. In some states, only a postmortem blood test to prove lycanthropy is needed to make it legitimate. One of Edward's cover identities is that of "Ted Forrester," a bounty hunter.
Wood Bourne Combat System
1. A LOG must be kept and given to the Admins once fight is over.
2. A LETHAL or TO-THE-DEATH fight MUST be agreed on by BOTH players, witnessed and logged. If one player does indeed die due to the fight that character if dead

4. Score is tabulated at end of each round. IE: Player1 - 3 vs Player2 - 4
5. One Round equals one post and one roll per opponent.
6. If Players with they can have a moderator to keep score and officiate/witness, but is NOT mandatory for regular fights. TO-THE-DEATH fights must have moderator/official to score and witness and log.

WEAPONS
Weapons will have to be listed IN PROFILE along with type of ammunition or type of weapon it is. For a regular Human they will also need a permit # listed as well. They will receive this permit # from an Administrator to be named later. To receive this permit they will have to talk to the Admin and give a valid reason why such a weapon would be carried by this individual. It has to be a realistic reason. ONLY POLICE FORCE, FEDERAL MARSHALL and GOVT OPERATIVE will be permitted to carry any weapon with preternatural harming make or ammunition. These individuals will also have to have a permit # listed in their profile along with weapon that they carry. ANY INDIVIDUAL will have to have a new permit # for each weapon carried. AGAIN, be realistic, your character CANNOT be a walking armory IF the permit #'s and the weapon associated with those numbers IS NOT listed in the profile, it does not exist and therefore cannot be used The Administrator that will be in charge of this (and there will be only ONE), will keep track of Permit #'s given to who and what weapon/ammo is associated with that number. If what the Admin has does not match what is in the profile, the weapon is NOT valid.
NOTE: Weapons and Ammo must be realistic to this day and age. Nothing futuristic of fantastical will be allowed.
NOTE 2: ANY fight should be entered into thoughtfully and with purpose. The outcome will effect the RP around both Characters and their own individual storylines.
Logs will be started with this....
((Begin Log))
and ended with this....
((End Log))
The following is an example of how a combat should be played out.......
1. A fight should be logged in case there is dispute over it and to also make any official changes to storylines....IE: Battle of Ulfric or other shifter leader positions, etc.
2. Whoever is proctoring the fight should begin the log of the fight with something like this.....
3. Whoever is proctoring the fight should end the log of the fight with something like this.....
4. If there is question as to who should go first during the fight...a simple dice roll should be performed, whoever has the highest number wins first posting position.
5. The fight begins.... from this point on reference will be .......Fighter #1, ......Fighter #2, ........Proctor
Proctor: Begin Log
Proctor: Please roll for first posting positions.
Fighter #1: Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #1 rolled 15 on a 15 sided die.
Fighter #2: Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #2 rolled 10 on a 15 sided die.
Proctor: Fighter #1 goes first, Fighter #2 goes second. Begin.
Fighter #1: Circles his opponent trying to find a weak spot, any opening...then steps forward quickly, swinging his right fist toward Fighter #2's jaw.
Fighter #1: Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #1 rolled 2 on a 15 sided die.
Proctor: No Hit
Fighter #2: Easily ducks, avoiding the blow to his jaw and sends a flurry of jabs to Fighter #1's ribs.
Fighter #2 Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #2 rolled 8 on a 15 sided die.
Proctor: Moderate Hit .5
Proctor: Fighter #1 - 0, Fighter #2 - .5 (the proctor can optionally call Rounds too if they wish...IE: Round 1: Fighter #1 - 0 vs Fighter #2 - .5)
Fighter #1: Grunts as two of the jabs connect with his ribs, but he back pedals quickly to avoid the rest, as he does so he throws an uppercut to Fighter #2's jaw.
Fighter #1: Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #1 rolled 14 on a 15 sided die.
Proctor: Powerful Hit 1.5
Fighter #2: Teeth crack together as the fist connects with his jaw and he stumbles back. It makes his head ring and his tongue gets bitten. Shaking his head to clear it, he spits blood to the side as he starts to circle again. Stepping forward quickly, he goes into a swift spin kick intended to let his foot strike to the side of Fighter #1's head.
Fighter #2: Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #2 rolled 3 on a 15 sided die.
Proctor: Round 2: Fighter #1 - 1.5 vs Fighter #2 - .5
Fighter #1: Falls back avoiding the kick, but quickly reached out to grab Fighter #2's leg and twist, using his momentum to strain the leg and put Fighter #2 on the ground.
Fighter #1: Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #1 rolled 5 on a 15 sided die.
Fighter #2: Pulls his leg out of harms way, avoiding the grabbing hands, lands on that foot and follows through with another roundhouse kick to Fighter #1's head.
Fighter #2: Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #2 rolled 5 on a 15 sided die.
Proctor: Round 3 F1 - 1.5 vs F2 - .5
Fighter #1: Falls back again and waits for Fighter #2 to stand on both feet once more, then he dodges forward, feints a punch to the gut, then swings once more with his other hand to connect with Fighter #2's jaw.
Fighter #1: Wood Bourne Dice Roller: Fighter #1 rolled 11 on a 15 sided die.
Fighter #2: Takes another ear ringing blow to the jaw, this time feels teeth loosen as he stumbles to the side, shaking his head. THen, with a roar he charges forward to ram his head into Fighter #1's chest and tackle him to the ground.
Proctor: Solid Hit 1
Proctor: Round 4: F1 - 3 vs F2 - 1.5 ((as you can see here...the points are added as you go until a fighter hits 10 total points or higher))
Each post (except for the first one) that the Opponents make basically consists of two actions: Defending/Receiving the blow and then posting their Attack. Be descriptive so that your Opponent knows what to respond to, the more colorful the more enjoyable. Depending on the rolls of your Opponent will decide if the hit is missed, a glancing blow (moderate .5), solid blow (1)...so on.
Please...also feel free to simply spar and practice with your fellow players...this can also be used as a RP tool for character development.
