Lady Pioneers win Season Opener
Ludlow Ma: The Western Mass Lady Pioneers win their season opener on the road vs. New York Magic. Laura Guigli from the University of Hartford scored in the first half at the forty third minute on an assist from Colgate stand out Kelly Kuss. Holding much of the play through the first half, the Lady Pioneers were able to maintain quality possession and created scoring chances that just missed the mark. University of Massachusetts standout T Smith served as the play making center midfielder who helped spread the ball around to keep the New York Magic on their heels. During the second half, the Magic pushed up field and pressured the defense of the Lady Pioneers. But Brook Johns, a returning player for the Lady Pioneers for the past three years, stood strong and anchored the defense, alongside Ashley OBrien (UConn), Karen Ray of England and rookie defender Taylor Hartman of Agawam. The quality play of the Lady Pioneers on both sides of the ball ensured Lauren Luckey of UMass the chance to record the blank sheet. The win is an important first step for the Lady Pioneers as they look to continue the success they found at the tail end of last season. The Lady Pioneers next test will come when Hudson Valley Quick Strike FC visit Lusitano Stadium on Saturday May 16th at 7:30pm. Its Soccer Mom Appreciation Night in which the Pioneers recognize the dedication of your special Soccer Mom as they get in Free. For more information visit the pioneers at www.wmpioneers.com
