artist overiew:Nathan is a musician, singer, and songwriter from southwest lower Michigan that has worked with worship bands in the area. He has a desire to lead people into God's presence via worship and to teach and train individuals to develop and serve on worship teams.on a personal note:Hi, I'm Nate Wickey; I'm originally from Nottawa, Michigan, a small town in southwest Michigan that is famous for one thing--big ice cream cones. I spent most of my growing up years in Nottawa with my parents and my 3 younger brothers. We moved to Sturgis, Michigan when I was 16. It was around that time that I decided to learn how to play guitar, which some of my brothers were doing. I began with guitar, then bass guitar, then got involved with helping to lead worship at Lake Area Christian School, where I graduated. I then got involved with helping form a worship band with my church youth group at Grace Christian Fellowship in Sturgis, Michigan, and played on the Sunday morning team. My primary roles were playing bass guitar and leading worship.Working with the youth band, I really began to see what God can and wants to do with worship. I firmly believe that He created us for relationship with Him and our worship is an expression of our love for Him. As God began to move, the youth group worship band exploded into several complete worship bands and a population of youth that were excited about experiencing God's presence.It was in that setting that I met the beautiful girl who would become my wife. While working with the youth group, I finished college and married my sweetheart, Kathy.After college, I began my teaching career at Northridge High School in Middlebury, Indiana where I still serve in the science deparment teaching Physics and Chem/Phys.In 2004 Kathy and I were sent to Fremont Community Church in Fremont, Indiana where we've been serving with the worship band and church leadership. We've also had the priviledge of becoming parents during this time as we've welcomed 3 children into our family; Raina, Jason, and Petra. As a family, we love to spend time together and have been privileged to have opportunities to travel and enjoy the outdoors together, especially during the summer when I'm not teaching.Over the years I've written and recorded a few songs with my own equipment and limited skills, but recently, we've partnered with Red Ink Music to produce an EP of worship songs.Spending time in God's presence is contagious and I have desired to lead people into His presence and to inspire and train musicians and worship leaders. God has provided me the priviledge of working with many talented people and I pray for more and more opportunities to glorify His name through this awesome experience that we call worship!God has given each of us gifts and talents. He has a purpose for each of us and a purpose for the gifts that He gives. He didn't give them to us to make us look good or so we can feel good about ourselves. He wants us to use them to bring glory to Him. It's not about us, it's about Him! Use your gifts, develop your talents, and give all of the glory back to God. He is worthy of our praise!
