"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”.
-Mahatma Gandhi
We started as a small group of individuals who saw a desperate need for advocates of larger breed dogs. Smaller dogs are adopted faster and rescued more often. And just like that a new hope is born. A new hope and beginning for big dogs all over South Florida. Our hope is that this site, and this rescue, brings big hearts together to save more animals.

Dogs needing foster homes NOW!
Dino was confiscated from a fight raid in Miami-Dade County. He loves people, walks well on a leash, and already started basic training. He is very energetic and needs lots of exercise. Dino would do best with an experienced dog owner. He is a happy little guy at only 40lbs. Dino is also a sucker for belly rubs!
FAQ
Will the dog be houstrained?
Some are and some are not. We will provide you with resources and any advice needed for successful potty training.
Who pays for medical expenses?
We do! We cover all costs including microchip, spay/neuter, and vaccines.
What if I can only foster on a short term basis?
Although we prefer to have a 3 month commitment, short term fosters are also needed for emergencies. Let us know if you would like to be added to our emergency foster list. Emergency fosters are from 1-7 nights.
What happens if I fall in love with my foster dog?
'Foster failures' are more than welcome to adopt their foster dogs. Fostering is the best way to find the perfect dog for your family.

Marketing your dog for adoption
Craigslist.com is a free classified ad site. Find the Craigslist for your area and post an ad. Do not try to make money off your dog, the most important thing is to find him/her a good home. Please do a home check on whomever you are adopting your dog to.
Facebook is an enormous marketing tool. Upload photos with a complete description of your pet. Include, age, breed, sex, shot records, personality traits, and whether or not a dog is cat/dog friendly. Tag friends that could potentially help in the photo. All of their friends will see the photo as well. Remember to include your contact information.
Pictures are worth a thousands words.
When posting your dog for adoption, you want to use the best possible photo. If you use a cell phone image of your dog you may not get a response. Ginger Monteleone Photographyoffers free photos of your adoptable pet if you bring your pet to her location in Kendall. Send her an emailto schedule.
Taking your pet to the shelter
If you are thinking about surrendering your dog to the shelter you MUST know the following:
Your dog will be taken into a very stressful environment. The shelter does not have the facility to contain it’s sick and diseased dogs separate from healthy dogs. During its short stay there it will probably get sick. Owner surrendered animals only have a 24 hour hold. This means that after 24 hours your once family pet is eligible to be euthanized. This is a reality. It is estimated that 50-100 pets are put to sleep everyday at Miami Dade Animal Services.

Lost Dog
If your dog has a microchip, report the dog lost immediately to the company servicing the microchip. Make lost dog flyers. Place them around the area the dog was last seen including your local grocery store and vet's office. Also post one at Miami Dade County Shelter as someone might recognize your dog on intake. Visit the shelter daily and ask to be taken to the sick areas and the "west wing". Your dog may not ever make it to the main adoption floor. Look for your pet on Petharbor.com or petfinder.com. The shelters also list all the animals on these websites. Lastly, post a photo of your dog on different Rescue Group's facebook pages.
Found Dog
Take the dog to the nearest local vet's office. They will scan the dog for a microchip FOR FREE. Make afound dog flyer. Place them around the area the dog was found including your local grocery store and vet's office. Also post one at Miami Dade County Shelter as someone might be looking for their pet at the shelter.

Our Adoption Process
Adopting a pet is a big decision that should not be taken lightly. This lifetime commitment includes providing your new pet with proper healthcare, grooming, pet training, nutrition and socialization, as well as spending quality time with your pet. Big Hearts for Big Dogs Rescue requires a background check with personal and vet references, a phone interview, and a home check. There is also an adoption fee.
Adoption
Application
Take the first step and fill out an adoption application and let us know exactly what you're looking for. Afterwards, you may schedule a meet and greet with one of our amazing adoptables.
