My name is Wesley Bandemer, I had been riding and racing dirtbikes for 6 years. I played sports as far back as I can remember. I had my share of injury's, broken bones, and ER visits, but never had anything I couldn't recover from. On June 10th 2006 during a motocross race I crashed and was instantly paralyzed from the neck down. I shattered my C4 vertebrae leaving me a C3-C7 quadriplegic. Before the accident I tried to be the best athlete I could be and live as active as possible.. I'm doing whatever I can to get even just a taste of my old life back.
During a 3 month trip to New Delhi, India for embryonic stem cell injections last year, I regained significant strength and movement in my arms, mainly in my biceps. I also experienced imrovment in my core strength and even some flickering in my toes. These are the first improvements I've seen since becoming a quadriplegic. I've tried a lot of different things to better my situation. I went to Germany for an adult stem-cell treatment. I've also tried acupuncture, different types of massages, Project Walk and have been doing intense physical therapy throughout my life in a chair. The treatment I received in India is the only thing that has produced results. We are planning to go back on February 22nd 2012. My goal is to raise $25,000 to cover everything for this trip.
