She earned a full ride scholarship to Mississippi State University where she ran Cross Country but after struggling
with injuries, transfered to the University of Illinois, where she graduated in 2008 with a degree in Elementary Education and a Math minor. She currently coaches Girls Track and Field at Woodstock North High School in Woodstock, IL.

the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Team Trials this summer.
Claudia Becque claudia BECQUE
Endurance athletes are known for their large appetites. Claudia Becque has a hunger that just wont stop and cant be satisfied by carbs alone. She got a taste at the 2008 U.S. Marathon Team Olympic Trials and can't wait for seconds.
Becque, who came to running only after trying every other sport imaginable, gathered four All-State titles in both Cross Country and Track while attending Palatine High School. A former runner for Marquette University, Becque continued her running career after graduation by joining Chicago's Fleet Feet Elite Racing Team.
Christina Overbeck christina OVERBECK
Christina grew up in Seattle, Washington where she was an avid soccer player who ran to keep in shape. Although she'd never run cross-country, her high school track coach encouraged her to try out for the team at Calvin College. She thought the idea was crazy but noticed that the first race was in her hometown, meaning a free trip home if she made the team (which she did.). By her junior year, she was hooked. That year she won 6th place at Nationals in cross-country and 5th place at Nationals in the 10k during track season, earning her All-American honors in both events. She broke the school record in the 10k in her senior year.
Christina has a Mechanical Engineering degree and was the 2009 CARA Runner of the Year. She is very excited to try to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials. She currently races for Fleet Feet Elite Racing in Chicago.
Producer's Statement
wendy SHULIK - Producer
Born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, I've been immersed in the running scene since I was 16. I ran Cross Country at Arizona State University and can remember skipping class my sophomore year of college to watch Joan Benoit win the very first womens Olympic Marathon in 1984. After moving from Los Angeles to Chicago in 1995, I discovered a robust and competitive running community that has never ceased to inspire and motivate me.
Although my fastest times are now behind me, my passion for the sport has never waned. I still get chills when I watch a race on t.v., from the sidelines or even from my vantage point as a back-of-the packer in a local 5K. I'm grateful for the support of the running community and the many friends I've made through it.

Suzanne Thomas Ryan suzanne THOMAS RYAN
Suzanne credits her love of running to her dad who let her tag along on his runs when
she was just a kid. She ran track in high school but gave up running shortly thereafter.
In her senior year at Taylor University, she saw a brochure for the Indianapolis Half Marathon and decided to give it a try. The track coach saw her race and convinced her to join the team, where she ran the 10k and qualified for Nationals.
After college, Suzanne married and had four children. Between babies she'd get back in shape, run a few races and then become pregnant again. In 2005, after only 5 weeks of training, she ran the Memphis Marathon in 3:06. In 2006, she began training for a sub-3 hour marathon and followed an 18-week program she found in a book.
She ran 2:50 in the 2006 Chicago Marathon, close to a qualifying Olympic Trials time. In 2008-2009, she suffered several injuries, including a broken tailbone, foot and sprained ankle. It wasn't until March of 2010 that she was mentally and physically ready to start training and racing again. Suzanne's goal within the next two years is
to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Marathon Team Trials.
