Many historians consider the emergence of ecommerce as too modern and a sign of the ever changing environment. I find this notion as too radical because ecommerce is not something new. What changed only is the mode of transaction. The old store is replaced by online stores called Flash websites. The law of supply and demand did not change, and it even became stronger online. Pursuit of profits had been with us since the dawn of human civilization. Think of this. Man initially traded with people around him or his tribesmen. Then, he made tools to made trade much easier and domesticated animals like horses to make travel to trading areas faster and more efficient. He then made boats, studied the air currents, and formulated navigational devices for him to trade to distant places. In the process of trade, there is an exchange of culture and cooperation thrives. He soon made communication devices and faster transportation systems because the demand for these items increased as the pursuit for profits increases. Ecommerce is just a part of this improvement. Man has to circumvent the trade barriers created by language, national laws, government regulation, lack of necessary capital, and geographical considerations.

In other words, ecommerce is not something new because we have been doing trade and pursuing profits for thousands and thousands of years.
