Conveying Cultures Beyond Boundaries
Website Functions
There is no telling how far websites will go in discussing one of the most interesting topics in society today. "Lifestyle" is a word originally coined by Alfred Alder, an Australian psychologist and this word encompasses behavioral habits, conventional ways of doing certain things and all other actions that are done by a group of individuals in what we would call "society."
In a way, lifestyle also becomes a persons worldview.
When the term "lifestyle" gained popularity a generation ago, many people dismissed it as superficial or something akin to a voguish trend. They believed it somehow elevated habits of consumption, dress and recreation to a social status classification. In time, "lifestyle" was accepted and has proven to be useful in describing social values and human behavior.
Adler first classified lifestyle into four categories. The first kind characterizes an individual as well adjusted and does not need to strive for superiority. The second one is characterized as an individual who strives to prove his or her personal superiority over others. The third is an individual characterized as a taker who strives to take everything without exerting any effort or struggle on his or her part. The fourth is a decision avoider.
In current times, we classify the different lifestyles differently. We have a variety that is as numerous as the number of countries all over the world. Let us discuss a more specific example such as the Bohemian style. In modern usage, "Bohemian" is the style in which individuals live. It is described as unconventional and usually artistic lifestyles. Many thespians opt for this kind of lifestyle. The first people who lived Bohemian lifestyles were the travelers or refugees from central Europe. In modern times, Bohemian became a style or dressing as well as a way of living life.
Another example that is simpler is a healthy lifestyle. The last few years has seen a rise in the number of people who have opted to live healthier and fuller lives. Vegetarianism became a trendy and healthy way of living. An even more recent development is the fact that people have now chosen to go green, thus precipitating a demand for more organic products. Taking these into consideration, we see the recent proliferation of these types of businesses related to organic food, including but not limited to organic gardening, organic farming and recipes featuring organic harvests, among others.
All over the world, businesses have started marketing green or organic products to the world wide web market. People have started to search online for biodegradable, recycled and organic products. One website even claims to be "green." You can make your own website with them without feeling guilty of contributing to the deterioration of the environment. Many businesses have begun to use more environmentally-friendly approaches such as using recycled or biodegradable packaging that lessens the impact on environmental concerns.
The term "lifestyle" has indeed embraced a broader scope of issues and topics. Let us begin to discuss the different lifestyles and how they are related to websites and internet usage. There are different internet users all over the world and according to statistics, there has been a rapid increase from 1995 to 2009. The total number of people who used the internet was .04% in 1995 and has recently increased to 23.8%. Asia has the most number of internet users numbering at 657.2 million. This is followed by Europeans with 393.4 million internet users. However, Asia being the largest continent in the world should be taken into consideration.
When you take a look at statistics, you will notice that a significant percentage of the world population use the internet. As have been observed by the entire world, there seems to be a new kind of lifestyle established by internet usage. The Information Age has finally come to its fore. Everyday lifestyles are taken to the virtual world where people interact in chat rooms, forums and social networking sites. The world has indeed grown smaller. However, there are language barriers that must still be overcome.
Internet users often search online for information regarding ways of living healthier, fuller and richer lives. It is for this reason that many websites have been put up online providing the information these people need for personal and educational reasons.
Many free websitesdevoted to disseminating information regarding ways to live healthier lifestyles have mushroomed all over the world. Some websites have been put up to bring together communities of people living certain lifestyles. A wonderful way of interacting and sharing information about certain lifestyles or world views has paved the way to educating people globally.
