Lorenzo Jackson Foundation
Our History
The Lorenzo Jackson Foundation was founded in 2008 by Alexander Everett of Everett Publishing, Inc. to continue the work of educator, Lorenzo Jackson, who tirelessly dedicated himself to highlighting the importance of schooling and the pursuit of knowledge. A music teacher and role model who taught piano and voice lessons to young people for free, Lorenzo Jackson was committed to the importance of pursuing an education as a way of achieving ones dreams. After being diagnosed with HIV, Jackson made it his personal mission to educate youth in New York City with HIV and AIDS until he died on February 18, 1995. The foundation that now carries his name began in March of 2008 and has adopted his passion for supporting young people with HIV/AIDS by providing both the financial means necessary to pursue a college education as well as the services necessary for helping these young people transcend the limitations of their diagnosis.
The first two years for The Lorenzo Jackson Foundation have been characterized by hard work and initial success. After incorporating in March of 2008, LFJ received its 501c3 tax exempt status on April 25, 2008. Since then, LFJ has sponsored successful fund-raising events, including the Black Tie Gala in November of 2008 and 2009 and the Speed Dating Event in February of 2008 and 2009. Additionally, LJF secured funding from individual and corporate sponsors, including The Time Hotel, Grand Marnier, Dr. Miracles, and Ambiore. Also, LFJ has partnered with Health and Education Alternatives for Teens (HEAT) since 2008 and has established ties in November of 2009 with the Gay Mans Health Center.
Most importantly, LJF was able to award its first college scholarship to a young person with HIV/AIDS in 2009, Chakena Conway. Because of the foundations efforts, she is now pursuing a college degree at one of the city colleges in New York. But there is so much more to be done to support young people who live with this diagnosis yet want to make the most of their lives and pursue higher education. The Lorenzo Jackson Foundation remains committed to providing this much-needed assistance at this time of great need.

Lorenzo Jackson Foundation Mission and Future Goals
Our Mission
The Lorenzo Jackson Foundations unwavering mission is to inspire and empower young people living with HIV/AIDS to live without limitations on what they can accomplish by providing them with the financial assistance needed to pursue a higher education and offering programs that support their emotional, academic, and personal success. The foundation is committed to young people in helping their generation stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Our Vision
Young people in New York City diagnosed with HIV/AIDS will live their lives without limitations by pursuing their right to a higher education. Through the mentoring services, counseling support programs, service opportunities, and financial assistance for college provided by the Lorenzo Jackson Foundation, these individuals will not only be able to achieve their own goals, but they will also give back to their communities in ways that will stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Our Future
Supporting Chakena Conways college aspirations is only the beginning of the efforts needed to realize our vision and support the many young people like her who fall through the cracks and give up on pursuing their dreams after a diagnosis of HIV/AIDS. Much work has yet to be done. Therefore, during the fall of 2009, LFJ developed a strategic plan to guide its future steps toward making its vision a reality and being able to more fully implemente its mission. We face a critical need for financial support in order to make this happen, and we seek to partner with individuals and organizations who share our commitment of helping young people with HIV/AIDS live their lives free of artificial limitations.
