On the 15 September 2012 Sligo will be welcoming athletes to come share in the unique experience that is a Marathon in County Sligo. Set against the backdrop of Yeats Country, the marathon route is truly spectacular. Breathtaking lakeside roads and mountain views will make for a memorable experience for all athletes. The full marathon loops around Lough Gill, taking in views of the Ox Mountains and Yeats Isle of Innishfree.
The Half marathon, sharing the beauty of the marathon will also challenge runners to "Beat the Squirrel". The 'Squirrel' attacks at the 11km mark and is 800 meters of Grade 5 hill. Its short but challenging and your reward is that the last 10kms is nice easy going and predominantly down hill.
