Best,
David.
Hey!
My name is David and I am a second year student in the faculty of science currently in Integrated Sciences.
The reason I am running again for this position is because I really believe in what the AMS does and hope to be your voice on council.
We are part of the largest student union in Canada and with that much pulling power; the AMS can really have a significant role in your student life both on and off campus.
Some of my involvements include:
-Co-President of UBC Students Offering Support
-Co-president of the UBC Coordinated Science Pgm Council
-Chair of Youth in Philanthropy
-Executive of the City Youth Council
I was elected to the AMS council in late 2010 and over the past few months, I have learned how the AMS council operates and am now accustomed to the various procedures and inner workings of the AMS. With this understanding and with knowledge of the issues that students currently face, I can focus on my agenda to push for positive change to benefit you.
Help me in representing your interests and concerns to the AMS and we can achieve a lot to make UBC a better place for all of us!
As a student at UBC, I am constantly exposed to challenges that most students face. With the cost of living going up and tuition having doubled in the last 8 years, UBC needs to remember that education shouldn't mean a debt sentence. The BC government recently cut over 38 million dollars from student aid programs which even I was personally affected by. The government should be investing in education, not taking away from it.
In addition, there needs to be a better and more efficient transportation access for students living off campus and increases in student housing on campus that is affordable for students. Not to mention proper implementation and consultation with students regarding land use policies that affect us and ensure it won't negatively affect student life.
Furthermore, with your support, we were able to pass the recent referendum. A milestone for the AMS but it also means we have lots of work to do. With the new fee structure and various changes coming, let’s ensure we put students first. The AMS has direct responsibility on the life of students and with your vote, I can represent the concerns that you may have and push for positive change. Vote for me and we can work together to make our voices heard!
Here some key points I believe in:
- Increasing student financial assistance and lobbying for increased funding for education
- Ensuring strong financial responsibility and good management of budget and funds
- Improving the current transit system. Supporting the UBC Rapid Line and consultation process
- Keeping council and the executive accountable and transparent
- Providing more support and resources for our clubs and services
With my experience and leadership skills I can work together with both the students and the AMS to voice your concerns.
Let me represent you on council and together we can advocate for a better UBC!
Voting starts on March 21 and ballots close on March 25!!
