Hooked Design is a young design company from Finland. We want to offer you unique interior design products Scandinavian style.

Our first collection consists of ecological hand-made lace carpets from recycled material. Our name Hooked Design comes from the traditional crocheting technique which requires a crochet hook.

Tarina The story behind Hooked DesignThe trademark Hooked design was created in 2009 in Finland from the co-operation of designer Minna Kokko and business student Tiina Jaatinen at the Junior Achievement - Young Enterprise Graduate programme. Hooked Design was awarded for the title of the best Young Enterprise in Finland 2010 and we represented Finland at the Enterprise Challenge Europe finals in Sofia, Bulgaria. Hooked Design is also a finalist at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in Kansas City, USA in November 2010.We have been very pleased with the success of our products both in Finland and abroad. As the company grew, two new partners Eve Hirvonen and Sarita Viitamäki joined Hooked Design in the summer 2011.We want to serve our international customers as effectively as possible and expand our global business. Marketing Director Eve Hirvonen is working with our exports and developing the company's portfolio abroad. Sarita Viitamäki is our new designer and she will design new and exiting home decor products to expand our collection! Lace on the floor The Hooked Design lace carpets are hand-made in Finland from recycled material. Our first collection consists of ecological design carpets from textile industry left-over material. The customer can decide the size and color. The lace carpet design is influenced by the windows of the cathedral Notre Dame de Paris. The name “Hooked Design” comes from the traditional crocheting technique which requires a crochet hook.Responsible Business Responsibility and openness is important for us. It is often difficult to track the origin of foreign interior design products and for example in Asia child labor is still common in the carpet industry. This is why all Hooked Design carpets are made in Finland and we donate one euro from each carpet to work against child labor. We have published our supply chain at our website and we want to act as openly as possible.Product informationAll our products are 100 % textile industry leftover material. Because of this, the thickness and colors may vary. The material is mostly cotton, but may include synthetic fibers.The round carpets are available in sizes: 50-200 cm (diameter). The basic sizes are 60 cm, 90 cm, 120 cm and 140 cm. Basic colors are white, off-white, grey, red and black. Other colors are available on request.The carpets are easy to maintain. The small carpets (max 120 cm) can be washed in a washing machine (follow your own washing machine's instructions). We recommend washing the larger carpets at a laundry. Wash separately in delicate wash in 40 degrees celsius. Dry on a flat surface and shape the carpet to its right form when still damp. The supply chain

Hooked Design wants to keep its supply chain as open as possible. We aim to describe our product life cycle in detail from the design to the disposal of the product. Responsible business is important to us and our operations are based on the principles of sustainable development. DesignerMinna Kokko studied textile design and graduated as a designer in 2010. Minna has worked at a major Finnish department store Stockmann in their interior decoration section since 2003. During her studies Minna worked with pattern and product design. She also participated at the Heimtextil fair in Frankfurt in 2009. As a designer Minna aims to create timeless and stylish products and is often inspired by nature and her travels abroad. She also considers it important to create unique eco-friendly products that are easy to use.MaterialHooked Design re-uses leftover material from the Finnish and European textile industry. Selvedges from both ends of fabric rolls are cut off and collected in textile factories. This is the material Hooked Design uses in its lace carpets. Most of our material comes from a Finnish clothing industry company Nanso. We always pick up a large amount of material at a time, in order to minimize our emissions and costs. Generally we can utilise all of the material in our products. If there is not enough yarn in certain colour for a small carpet we will use it to produce other smaller items such as table mats so that it does not go to waste.ProductionAll products are handmade in Turku in the southwest corner of Finland. All of our employees work from home and one person can manufacture the carpet from start to finish without any machines. We minimise our emissions and costs by delivering the materials to our employees and then collecting the completed products from them.Packing and deliveryOur material is usually delivered in big plastic bags, which we use for the packaging of our products. We mail the carpets in these durable plastic bags, recycled cardboard boxes or recycled paper. We also avoid creating waste or buying any unnecessary additional material. For example our product tags are attached to the carpets with the same material we use for the products. When we deliver our products by car we try to make the journey as energy efficient as possible. All of our product tags and other marketing material is printed on environmentally friendly material.Use and CareThe uses of the carpets are broad. Smaller carpets fit well for instance in the bathroom or in the hallway. Middle-sized carpets are nice under a small table or chair, on the balcony, hallway or bedroom. Bigger ones look impressive for example in the living room. A carpet can also be hung on the wall, when it works as sound insulation. Hooked Design carpets are durable and easy to maintain. All of our products can be washed on delicate program at 40 degrees and we recommend that you use an environmentally friendly detergent. The small carpets (max 120cm) can be washed in your own washing machine. We also recommend you to use a professional service when washing the larger carpets. Discarding/ReuseIt is possible to unravel the carpets and re-use the material. Textile waste that cannot be re-used anymore can be chopped and spun into a new fibre. A good example of this is organic yarn. Material of a poorer quality can be utilized as a filling to pillows and mattresses and it can re-used in the manufacturing of cloths and cotton wool.
