film trailer
We will update this section as soon as we have new material on the british football supporting tradition.
Titled “Cass,” the movie focuses on Cass Pennant who was the first hooligan put behind bars in the post-Heysel crackdown initiated by Maggie Thatcher. It is based on the book written by Cass Pennant, also titled “Cass.” (Pennant is interviewed in the documentary “Hooligan” from 1985 that we linked to last week, it can be seen here.) The movie, featuring actor Nonso Anozie, is not just about football hooligans, it focuses on Cass, who is an orphaned Jamaican baby, adopted by a white couple in 1950s London. In the words of Pennant: “My life is the story of a certain section of British society, about race, class, music and fashion and the friendships that cut across those divides.”
