Get to know me...
My name is Victoria and I am currently a senior at Coventry High School. Next year I will be enrolled as part of the class of 2014 at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. With the ambition to become a secondary level English teacher, I have always found myself in advanced placement classes and English based electives. My strong will to always do what I can to help the people around me is what individualizes me from my peers. By becoming an English teacher I feel that I will be able to relate to my future students as individuals in order to give each one the special attention that he/she needs, just as my teachers have always done for me at CHS. One of the strongest traits that any teacher can have, which I strive to achieve, is the ability to give a student something to bring home besides their homework. A great teacher will send a student home with the interest in learning more about what has been taught in class.
While attending Quinnipiac University I will not actually be studying English Education until my fourth and fifth year there. Up untill then i will have to take a number of mandatory classes which may include English,Math, Science and Social Studies. My Portfolio has examples of my work from all of these subjects, each followed by an explanation of how they connect to Coventry High Schools academic expectations.

I have demonstrated the academic expectation, Technology Application, through this project: "Cigarette Addiction PowerPoint". My reflections show that it connects to the expectation because by using a PowerPoint to present my presentation on diabetes, I am taking advantage of my school resources. The technical advancements of a PowerPoint allowed me to include animation, pictures, and graphs.
I have demonstrated the academic expectation, Personal Choices and Goal Setting, through this project: "My Goals as a freshman. My reflections show that it connects to the expectation because my freshman year in the class, teen health issues, I created a short paper outlining all of my goals for my life throughout high school. They each described how I would like to learn to improve myself and become a better person through my four years of high school by respecting my peers and remaining strong both intellectually and personally.
I have demonstrated the academic expectation, Respect for Individual Differences, through this project: "Hispanic Paper". My reflections show that it connects to the expectation because I consider all of the racial discrimination that Hispanics of the United States are today, and have been in the past been forced to suffer through. By recognizing these issues I can build more respect for individual differences around me.
I have demonstrated the academic expectation, Problem Solving, through this project: "Lab on Catalase Enzyme". My reflections show that it connects to the expectation because by doing this lab I had to follow a certain procedure in order to determine the accuracy of my hypothesis. In order to do this I preformed a series of scientific and mathematical equations that needed to be solved in order to come up with the answers to my proposed questions.
I have demonstrated the academic expectations, Development and Support of Conclusions as well as Organization and Analysis of Data, through this project: "Acid Rain Lab Report". My reflections show that it connects to these expectations because the whole lab is separated into my procedure of events and the results of conducting these events. The results are then formed into organized data tables which support the answer to my hypothesis as well as an analysis of my final data, which is found in the conclusion.

Digital
I have demonstrated the academic expectation, artistic expression, as well as teamwork and leadership through this project: Digital portrait photography. My reflections show that it connects to the expectations because one must have prior knowledge of the lighting and focusing techniques used to capture a digital photograph. Also it is important to know how to use Adobe Photoshop to edit and advance your photo. Also in order to produce good pictures one must tell their model exactly what they want them to do with their face and body language. But in order to play the role as a leader without sounding demanding and socially disadvantaged, they must make sure that their model is comfortable and willing, which is where the idea of teamwork comes in.to play

I have demonstrated the academic expectation, Information Acquisition and Evaluation, through this project: A paper written on "The Breakdown of the English Language". My reflections show that it connects to the expectation because in order to write the paper i had to acquire read about the progressions and downfalls of the English language using multiple different sources, mainly the English book "Ways of Reading.' In order to form an opinion on the subject and take a stance for my paper, I had to analyze my sources and highlight the important and relevant information.
I have demonstrated the academic expectation, effective communication, through this project: "Letter to the Board of Education". My reflections show that it connects to the expectation because by forming an opinion on the subject of having longer school days, I am stressing my own arguments using different language techniques. By quoting reliable sources and considering all sides of the argument, I am connecting my personal ideas more personally with the reader.
I have demonstrated the academic expectation, responsible citizenship, through this project: Senior Year Volunteer Work. My reflections show that it connects to the expectation because In order to create Graduate I had to perform 10 hours of community service. I completed 13.5 hours of Community Service through bell ringing and working at the voting polls. This is relevant in that by committing these acts of community service I am acting as a responsible and active citizen within my community.
I have demonstrated the academic expectation, improvement in skill levels and knowledge, through this project: "Final Reflective Essay". My reflections show that it connects to the expectation because by writing this letter to my teacher, I was able to reflect on all that I had learned over that year of English class and how it helped me grow intellectually as a student.
