about us

About Us

Formed in 2006, under the name of 'Vent Cinq', and renamed in 2011 as 'No Strings Attached', this wind quintet is formed of vibrant graduates of the Birmingham Conservatoire.

We enjoy specialising in wedding and function repertoire and regulaly appear at the Mildland Wedding Show at the Belfry Hotel.

Having vast experience as both recital and function musicans, we are able to put a professional and elegant touch to your special event.

meet the players

Dot Brodie

Dot Brodie (bassoon) left the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2006 with BMus(Hons) as well as a post graduate diploma focusing in performance on both the bassoon and contra bassoon. Since then Dot has enjoyed a varied career as a freelance performer playing all types of music from solo performance to large symphonic works, mixed with teaching and has also set up her own business as a woodwind and brass instrument repairer.

Helen Foster

Helen Foster (clarinet) is originally from Leicestershire and graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2004. She is a respected music educator across the West Midlands and works full time for the Birmingham Music Service as well as tutoring privately. Helen is also a freelance musician and enjoys roles in local shows. She joined the quintet in 2007. Helen enjoys going on long walks and playing badminton in her spare time.

Becky Kitson

Becky Kitson (French Horn) graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2006, completing her Bachelor of Honours degree. She finished her studies at Post-Graduate level in 2007, winning the Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Prize in this year. Becky is now teaching and freelancing in and around the West Midlands, performing regularly with the Central England Ensemble and Queens Park Sinfonia. She joined the wind quintet in the summer of 2007.

Lesley Knowles

Lesley Knowles (oboe) has completed her postgraduate study at Birmingham Conservatoire where she finished with distinction. She was a finalist in the Conservatoire prize for woodwind and has appeared as soloist with the Sinfonia of Birmingham and the Central England Ensemble. She has studied with George Caird, Jenni Philips, Edwin Roxburgh and John Anderson. Lesley has auditioned with a number of professional orchestras within the U.K. and Europe. She is currently an ‘extra’ with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and performed with them in Worcester Cathedral for the Elgar Centenary concert.

Rebecca Ogden

Rebecca Ogden (Flute) graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2005 having studied with Jonathan Rimmer. Rebecca currently works as a freelance musician around the UK and teacher of woodwind for the Birmingham Music Service. She recently completed a PGCE and has provided training for new music teachers as part of the Sound It Out progamme. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys baking and sewing.

Wedding Package

1 Hour Package

Premier Package

Our wedding package is a boking of 2 hours for just £499.

This service usually covers either the wedding ceremony and reception drinks or background music for the wedding breakfast.

Please note that how these hours are used are at your discretion and that these are just suggestions.

A perfect fit for providing the music for the wedding ceremony. Could include guests arriving, entrance of the bride, signing of the register and bride and grooms exit. Any remaining time can be used for background music during the reception drinks.

The 1 hour package is reaonably priced at £399

For larger events, more time may be required. The maximum booking is for 4 hours and prices are listed below.

2 hours - £499

3 hours - £599

4 hours - £699 ( please bear in mind a short break after the initial 2 hours will be needed when booking for 4 hours ).
