alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established at the University of California at Berkeley in the Fall of 1989 and was recognized by the College Panhellenic Association on February 7, 1990. The founding sisters dedicated themselves to establishing a strong and lasting organization which would provide Asian American women the opportunity to participate in the Greek system. Soon after being recognized by the College Panhellenic Association the founding sisters brought together a diverse group of women who shared with them the goals of sisterhood, scholarship, and leadership. These ideals were to later set the foundation for alpha Kappa Delta Phi's purpose.
The love and generosity that each member had for the organization was instrumental to the growth of alpha Kappa Delta Phi's reputation as a sorority, as well as to the forging of unbreakable friendships. The sisterhood has since then spread to prominent university campuses across the country. To meet the needs of the growing sisterhood, the National Board of alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established in May of 1993 at the National Convention in Santa Barbara, California.
It is the sincere wish of the founding sisters and the charter class that alpha Kappa Delta Phi continue to promote Asian Awareness in the community and leadership opportunities for women by providing each women with the resources, unique sisterly support and understanding to achieve her goals in life.
In the winter of 2004, Kelly Huang found that there was no sorority at the Virginia Commonwealth University that shared Asian culture with the rest of the Greek and University community. In search to fill this void, she formed a group of women that would strive to establish alpha Kappa Delta Phi at VCU.
In January of 2005, the interest group, Women In Sisterhood and Harmony, also known as WISH, was born. Through creativity, perseverance and passion, WISH established relations with organizations all over VCU's campus and was recognized as an interest group by the Multicultural Greek Alliance (MGA) on March 8, 2005. WISH created a strong presence in their community, established unbreakable friendships and became unified through the time they spent together. Their dedication to establish the first Asian-interest sorority at VCU grew and they felt ready to apply for colony status with confidence and high expectations.
In the Spring of 2006, after over a year of tireless effort, the fourteen women of WISH began the process to form a chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi at the Virginia Commonwealth University. These fourteen women , Chanda Cross, Melissa Fajardo, Nhi Ha, Kelly Huang, Gina Kang, Melissa Ly, Tina Ng, Phi Anh Nguyen, Quynh-Phuong Nguyen, Zarah Panaguiton, Celeste Thai, Angella Thuotte, Amanda Wong, and Christy Wong, established a foundation for the growth of sisterhood for the future women of VCU. They learned to work together through adversity, achieve goals with integrity and grow in sisterhood and love in hopes that all those that come after would have the same pride.
The Alumnae Association for the alpha Kappa Delta Phi chapter of the Virginia Commonwealth University was established in the Winter of 2007. The purpose of the group is to continue communication, facilitate the dispersal of Active House updates, and promote networking amongst alumnae sisters of the Virginia Commonwealth University. The Alumnae Association Constitution was finalized in December 2007, written by the chapter Alumnae Chair, and approved by the National Board Alumnae Chair. To establish leadership for the young organization, the first Alumnae Advisory Board was elected in the Spring of 2008. The Alumnae Association Handbook was completed in the Summer of 2008.

The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade raises funds and awareness for breast cancer
research and to advance access to care, with a focus on the medically underserved.
From its launch in 1992, Avon’s Global Breast Cancer Crusade has expanded to
more than 55 countries and by the end of 2009 had raised and awarded more than
$640 million. Grants are made in five areas: breast cancer education and awareness,
screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services and scientific research.
The largest source of funds for the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is the Avon Walk for
Breast Cancer.
The Avon Walks are non-competitive weekend fundraising walks for all fitness levels.
Since the launch of the series in 2003, more than $320 million has been raised through
the dedication of over 120,000 participating women and men. The Walks take place in
9 cities, covering 39 miles in two days, and raise awareness and funds to fight breast
cancer.
Progress has been made but there is still a new diagnosis of breast cancer in the U.S.
every 3 minutes. The Avon Foundation for Women supports research to accelerate
knowledge about the causes, diagnosis, treatments, and ways to prevent breast cancer.
It works to facilitate research collaborations and to identify and fund new research
directions. The Foundation also supports efforts to ensure the best quality of care for all,
regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
