The Vision
The People’s Mosquito has a simple aim to see the return to the UK skies of the De Havilland D.H. 98 Mosquito. During World War II many aircraft were funded by people, companies, towns, villages & organisations all over the World. We would like to repeat that model by getting the People of the United Kingdom to help us restore to flying condition this magnificent flying memorial that captures the spirit, the pride, the design brilliance and above all the bravery of our country.
Our first stage of this vision is to gauge your reaction. Do you the ‘People’ want this to happen? Then tell us by contacting us or writing a comment on the guest page.
Our number one goal, once completed, as in World War II is to hand the aircraft over to the RAF, in this case the BBMF to operate. But please note this is not agreed at this early stage by either party. If this, for whatever reason, cannot be achieved the People’s Mosquito will run as a charity organisation providing many hours of flying displays every year for the people of the United Kingdom.
Yes we are brand new, yes we are doing this very differently with the modern use of social networking, yes we have no money, yes we have no project, yes we need a project plan.... BUT did this stop the People of the United Kingdom in May 1940 when we stood alone! The People’s Mosquito team has come together with this old fashioned British way of trying to achieve something from obscurity!
The de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito
The Mosquito was a multi-role combat aircraft that served during the Second World War and the postwar era. It was known affectionately as the "Mossie" to its crews and was also nicknamed "The Wooden Wonder". It saw service with the Royal Air Force (RAF) as well as other air forces of the world
When the Mosquito entered production in 1941, it was one of the fastest operational aircraft in the world
Over 6,000 of this beautiful aircaft, designed by Geoffrey de Havilland, were built.
None survive in flying condition today, so far...
Who is attempting to make this happen?
Just people who love aircraft. All of them united by a desire to see a Mosquito back in the air.
It came about when warbird restorer John Lilley suggested via Twitter that it would be a great idea to restore one.
Immediately positive responses came and a "Band of 13" appeared to come together to get the ball rolling.
Those 13 are:
