VALERIO VENTURA, ART DIRECTOR OF CARTOON NETWORK's "CLASS OF3000" TO EXHIBIT RECENT PAINTINGS AT SOPAS GALLERY, JANUARY 11 -2012.Valerio Ventura will introduce his most recent paintings using the iconography of the world's most famous mouse at SoPas Gallery on January 11, through February 4th, 2012. Using Mickey Mouse, one of the world's most recognizable icons, Ventura channels his questions, fears and hopes of a world in a constant state of shock through interpretations of Mickey. The result is Zoix --creatures which reflect the artist's expression of disbelief in a world at war and in love with itself."I'm more interested in the question than the answer," says Ventura. "But it's the answer that leaves me shocked most of the time. The reason behind an action or the lack of, the lies. I juxtapose the images, with our societys stark writings, the result is at times comic and at times more serious thanone expects on a first glance."Born in Rome, Ventura is filmmaker, artist, painter and art director of the critically acclaimed animated television series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child, for HBO, and key designer of Tim Burtons Family Dog animated sitcom.His art has been featured in major animated feature films such as Hercules,Mulan, The Pagemaster, and Emperors New Groove. VALERIO VENTURA, ART DIRECTOR OF PRIME-TIME ANIMATED SERIES "CLASS OF 3000" TO EXHIBIT RECENT WORKS AT CARTOON NETWORK STUDIOS, FEBRUARY 25 - APRIL 20 2009. Valerio Ventura will introduce his most recent works, exploring architecture and design in Los Angeles and other locations around the world, a pen-and-ink potpourri, using a quill. With Buy this Trash the artist, employing his customary recycling, uses discarded and found materials for his canvases and framing. Ventura is inspired by a friends story of an artist in Kenya who did entire paintings with a three-inch nail; the Kenyan artist was too poor to buy a brush so he did amazing work by dipping the nail into his paint. I guess Im lucky I get to use a glass quill made by a Venetian glassblower, says Ventura. Born in Rome, Ventura is filmmaker, artist, painter and art director of the critically acclaimed animated television series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child, for HBO, and art director of the TV series Class Of 3000 for Cartoon Network.His art has been featured in major animated feature films such as Hercules, Mulan, The Pagemaster, and Emperors New Groove. His strong visual images have been on display in the Frank Wells building at the Walt Disney Studios and galleries here in the USA and in Italy. In 1997 CalArts had a retrospective of his work, and the San Bernardino County Museum included his work in a group show. Valerio Ventura will introduce his most recent paintings of his reknown interpretations of Mickey. The result is Zoix -- creatures which reflect the artist's expression of disbelief in a world at war and in love with itself.Born in Rome, Ventura is filmmaker, fine artist, photographer and art director of the Emmy award winning animated television series Class of 3000, for Cartoon Network, starring the voice and music of Andre 3000 (Outkast.) His art has been featured in major animated feature films such as Hercules, Mulan, The Pagemaster, and Emperors New Groove. His strong visual images have been on display in the Frank Wells building at the Walt Disney Studios. For the opening night only, the show will include the exclusive preview of Ventura's urban clothing line, Exit Brand. Says Ventura, 'Clothing is just another canvas. Here it is used to express one's individuality by providing a platform to express their rebellion against cookie-cutter clothing'. The inspiration for his line came from 'the pavement that we walk on' a series of paintings called Urbis. Ventura has photographed hundreds of models, actors and musicians, including: Gregory Hines, Billy Idol, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Paul Newman. About Us Ventura grew up in Rome, Italy before moving to Los Angeles California in the early eighties to work as a designer for film and television. During those years, Ventura worked in animation productions side by side with many industry icons like; Iwao Takamoto (VP Hanna-Barbera, creator of Scooby-Doo,) Tim Burton and Steven Spielberg (Family Dog, CBS) to name a few. In the mid-nineties Ventura co-art directed (with his wife and partner Gay Lawrence) the award winning TV series, Happily Ever After: fairy tales for every child (HBO,) and co-production designed the feature film, The Pagemaster, (Turner Pictures.)In the past twenty years Ventura has worked alongside his partner in the creative development of animated TV shows and features such as Rescuers Down Under, Hercules, Mulan and The Emperors New Groove (Walt Disney Co.)In 2008 Ventura has wrapped up two seasons as supervising art director for Cartoon Network Studios on the Emmy award winning TV series Class of 3000, and directed the animated music video Turn of the Century (CNS) featuring the voice and musical talent of André Benjamin (André 3000, Outkast.)Ventura work from his latest show, Mickeyanic, was exhibited for a year at the Walt Disney Consumer Product in Glendale, CA and for an additional year it was transported to show at the Walt Disney headquarters in London, UK.I grew up with Mickey Mouse, love the characters and what they do with it in Europe, so it was just a question of time that I was ending up using him to voice out many social issues. My latest series, Metropolino, reflects more of a Mickey Mouse at odds with machines, like Chaplin in Modern Times.Ventura is faculty at CalArts (Character Animation) and dedicates his time to teach fine art for non-profit organizations in the LA county in a effort to share his knowledge with students in inner-city schools.Ventura together with Will Swift of Arsenal Media LLC is currently developing an animated series for the internet.
