WHAT WE DO

About The Auction: Kappa Delta Sorority is hosting its' 16th Annual Reach For The Sky Auction at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Bellevue at 6pm, February 4th. The event benefits the program at Seattle Children's Hospital fighting against Shaken Baby Syndrome by implementing a prevention education program across Washington called The Period of PURPLE Crying. Since the beginning of the recession in 2007, the numbers of infants that suffer from Shaken Baby Syndrome (now called abusive head trauma) have skyrocketed (data shows an increase in cases by 55%). The Kappa Delta Sororitys Seattle Childrens Hospital program contact, Carol Jenkins (also a member of Prevent Child Abuse America) is willing to give more information on the goals of the program.
Prevent Child Abuse Program:Last year, we were able to raise $20,864 for Seattle Children's Protection Program directly from our Reach For The Sky Auction, which they used to jump-start their statewide effort to fight against Shaken Baby Syndrome. We also helped raise an additional $25,558.67 from 180 callers during the ONE Big Kiss for Seattle Childrens Hospital Radiothon. With that money they were able to establish a task force of state leaders, host a summit to inform over 200 nurses and advocates about the issue and its prevention and begin implementing the strategic plan to ensure that each new family at all birthing hospitals receives critical prevention information. For each family to receive this information the total cost is only $2 per family (each family receives an informational DVD and brochures). Training seminars are continuing to be scheduled to inform more and more medical professionals of essential information to give families with new infants in order to prevent Shaking Baby Syndrome. Kappa Delta Sorority serves as one of the Committees major funders and would like to continue to be a great support for the cause.
Our Goals:Our goal this year is to reach at least $60,000. This ambitious goal will only be possible through community participation. The Northwest should be aware of what social changes have occurred since the beginning of the recession and how the community has reacted in order to fight back against these negative trends. Our goal is to create awareness among the community of these issues. It will also provide information on how to donate or attend our Auction on February 4th. Thank you for your time. **Feel free to visit our Facebook Event Page at: Kappa Delta Sorority: Reach For the Sky Auction .
