services Now Offering an Original Acrylic 5x7 Painting
by artist, Lisa Harris
My price is $99 for one 5"x7" portrait of your pet with a simple background. Your pet portrait will be an original hand-painted, one-of-a-kind, acrylic painting on primed canvas panel, lightly sealed with mat varnish. You will easily be able to frame the artwork in any standard sized 5x7 frame or matted larger frame.
My paintings are not digitally produced.
You will start by emailing a photo of your pet for assessment. I will need a high resolution digital photo sent directly to me through email or you can send actual print/s through the regular mail. Your (paper) photo will be returned with your portrait.
Sometimes a particular photograph is not worthy of painting, and even though I can make an attempt to paint it, the best you can expect is a painted version of a bad snapshot. A favorite, well-focused close-up photo of your pet works best for this sized painting. A camera flash or intense sun can make it difficult to see rich dimensions and fine details, especially in white areas of fur... so take photos in natural light without a flash .. sunlight through a window casting deep shadows can add interest. A distracting busy background will be softened or replaced with one that is more 'artsy'.
After I receive your photo, I will then send you various digitally altered 'versions' for your approval before starting the painting. I may want to crop the photo for better composition, remove an object, or change the background.
I will discuss with you the various options that will give you the best result possible with what we have to work with and will not start the painting until we have agreed on what direction to take...
I like to allow roughly two to three weeks for a 5x7painting.
I complete work on a first come first served basis.
At this time, turnaround time can be as little as 2 weeks.
Your painting will be shipped when you okay the photos of the finished painting.
I will happily answer any questions, so, please, feel free to contact me.
bio
I have always loved art. Taking art classes at Purdue in the late 70's, a mostly agricultural college, the rest of the class was filling canvases with tubes of cerelian blue or cadmium red abstracts, creating their rendition of what might be a human body but unrecognizable in most cases while I labored over each individual eyelash. I was entranced by photo realism before there was a name for it and the professors chastized me with "if you WANT a photograph, TAKE a photograph".
Ok, enough... long story short, I became discouraged, and because I needed to have a roof over my head and food in my belly, I eventually put my paints away.
35 years later, I have come full circle and am painting once again, This time with some maturity and insight that I didn't have then. Maybe this is some of what the professors were trying to get me to understand; Art is not about painting every eyelash to replicate a photo ... but about expressing a feeling, a thought, sharing a part of yourself without attempts to please others, without the assumptions, without the attitudes ... and retraining the eye not to see just the technical 'details' of life, but seeing what is significant enough to paint.
