The Fault Line is a five person a cappella band based in Albany, NY, that takes traditional a cappella and smashes it against the wall. The remains are rebuilt into The Fault Line's funky musical style for all the world to enjoy. These five musicians come from a variety of musical experiences, but

are drawn together with an

incredible passion to bring the

funk and soul to the a cappella world.

Mike Thomas - Lead

- Songwriter and Composer with national radio play.

- Many televised performances, including NBC's America's Got Talent Season 1.

- Extensive knowledge of the history and evolution of rock and roll.

- Has performed in many national tours including the Van's Warped Tour and a tour with the Toasters.

- Has shared the stage with Cherry Poppin Daddies, The Verve Pipe, My Chemical Romance, The Offspring and many more.

ADAM

Adam Decker - Backup Vocals/Special Effects

After a 2 year hiatus, Adam Decker is back with The Fault Line. Rejuvenated from his time off, he is excited to simply make music. Since his start in the SOP/TFL 06’ era, he has been a work horse in ALL parts of this a cappella machine.

- Studied theater at Cortland State University

- Studied vocal performance at Ithaca College

- Songwriter/ Composer/ Arranger

LUKE

Luke Olmstead - Backup Vocals/Special Effects

- Played many leading roles in several different musicals.

- Went on tour as the sound engineer of the The Fault Line for many of their tours.

- Plays the trombone, piano and bass guitar fluently.

JUSTIN

Justin Adams - Vocal Percussion

- Degree in Music Ed. from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

- NYS certified K-12 Music Teacher.

- Singer/Songwriter.

- Top 20 performer on NBCs Americas Got Talent, 2007.

- 1st Place and Audience Favorite at NYC Regional Harmony Sweepstakes.

- Pursuing Masters in Choral Conducting at Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford

MATT

Matt Olmstead - Bass

- Degree in Music Ed. from The College of St. Rose.

- NYS certified K-12 Music Teacher.

- Songwriter/ Composer/ Arranger.

- Top 20 performer on NBCs Americas Got Talent, 2007.

- Recording Engineer/ Mixer for 2008 album, Junkin' Em Up.

High School High SchoolAt the high school level, students are interested in learning about how to stay involved with music beyond graduation. The Fault Line's question/ answer session addresses this concern and provides insight into the numerous musical possibilities that they have experienced. The Fault Line's performance and workshop combination includes ideas about improvisation, blending exercises, and classical vs. pop style singing.

Middle School Middle SchoolThe average student spends most of their middle school career in search of entertainment. The Fault Line uses this desire as a gateway to educate your students while encouraging them to feel more comfortable in development of a healthy and confident singing voice. This is an especially helpful tool for working with the middle school male singer.

Elementary School Elementary SchoolThe Fault Line has been very successful in utilizing the musical enthusiasm of elementary school students as a means to strengthen their developing creativity. The Fault Line displays a wide array of vocal techniques and conducts vocal exploration activities for young students to experiment with the different timbres of their own voice, learn about vocal percussion and work on improvisation.

Choral Groups Choral GroupsThe Fault Line's choral group demonstrations would provide examples of tuning and blending techniques, warm-up exercises and ideas on vocal health. The Fault Line will guide your group through the process of learning a new song using Solfege and the Kodaly methods while expanding your repertoire.

Theory and History Classes Theory/ History ClassesThe Fault Line can give insight into the steps that they take in turning an instrumentally based song into a vocal arrangement. They can cover aspects such as chord progressions, part division, textural-layering, etc. Also, The Fault Line can delve into the history of rock & roll and how it plays a large part in their song selection.
