UMass Lowell Global Brigades
Public Health and Medical Brigades
About UML Global Brigade
The University of Massachusetts Lowell Global Brigades was first founded in 2008 by Michelle Cassim. UML Global Brigades consists of dedicated UMass Lowell students, medical professional, and UMass Lowell faculty who wish to implement public health and basic medical solutions that strengthen the communities in Honduras.
There are two chapters in UML's Global Brigades. The Public Health chapter is responsible for building basic infrastructures (concrete floors, latrines, pilas) so that common medical conditions can be prevented. The Medical Brigade provides villagers with basic medical care and medication.

Summer 2009
UMass Lowell's first trip to Honduras was a success! The Medical Brigade students and health professionals treated over 500 patients in three days! The Public Health students and professionals built two outstanding pilas for two wonderful and deserving families. Shoes and clothes were also distributed among villagers during the Medical and Public Health Brigades.
UML Global Brigades would like to thank everyone who helped make this possible!
Fundraising
Prior to traveling to Honduras, students are responsible for aquiring medical donations and recruiting medical professionals to make the medical brigade a success. Common ailments are coughs and colds, GI ailments, parasites, headache, bronchial infections, arthritis, high blood pressure, dermatological ailments, fungus, dental ailments, and malnutrition. In addition to medical supplies, clothing and new to good conditioned shoes are also needed so we can donate it to the villagers of Honduras.
A couple of fundraisers will be held at the beginning of the Fall 2009 semester in order to ease the travel expenses for each students. All profits accumulated through these fundraisers will be divided and distributed throughout the entire group.
