About Us
In an increasingly knowledge and innovation driven global economy, universities see themselves as part of the larger global enterprises of creating, imparting, and applying knowledge. To stay relevant and thrive, universities today should play three roles: deliver quality undergraduate education, develop graduate education and research, and foster entrepreneurship and industry involvement.
As the undergraduates in world class universities, we should not only invent ourselves to a higher level of education but embrace ourselves in a world that calls for a change in paradigm for adapting the economic volatilities today. As far as concern, the current global economic recession has impacted the economy around the world. The threats and opportunities have been arisen.
Therefore, a convention takes place at a time when we need to reflect on the many issues to face the new challenges to accountants today.
Thus, under University of Malaya Accounting Club (UMAC), the Malaysian Accounting Students Convention (MASC) will be held in December 2009 at University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. This convention would serve as a platform for gathering accounting students in universities/colleges both private and public from all around Malaysia. It aims to begin a thoughtful, productive, and provocative dialogue among delegates. The event will include colloquiums and panel discussions running simultaneously and outdoor activities such as apprentice programme throughout the day that explore a wide variety of areas. Apart from these, the delegates are encouraged to interact with each other throughout the convention.
As this convention brings more than 400 participants, including the accounting students, the management of University of Malaya, distinguished business leaders and the Government, this convention would be one of the biggest conferences held in Malaysia organised by UMAC.
It is hoped that this convention will contribute to a greater understanding of the issues confronting accounting and financial sectors in the 21st century.

Motivation towards Entrepreneurs
MoneyTree was established to provide the financial skill and knowledge to youths aged 9 22, which would be required to build a career or business, as well as plan for their financial freedom. It has been created to fill the void left by the education system and school curriculum and to explore the opportunities available worldwide to further the dissemination and propagation of high-quality e-learning programmes utilising state of the art technology, and to groom the next generation of entrepreneurs.
BACKGROUND
I hold a bachelors degree in Economics from a local university and also a Computer Science degree from a local private university. After graduating, I joined an advertising agency and worked there for 8 months. My aim at that point of time was to learn adequate skills and gain sufficient experience in order to start a business of my own.
After leaving the advertising agency, I started my own advertising agency at the young age of 23. I managed my advertising agency for 10 years. Some time later, I also established a trading company which is based in Europe. Currently, I am one of the companys shareholders but I am no longer an active member
OPINION ABOUT THE LOCAL EDUCATION SYSTEM
I believe that the void in the local University education system is that students are not given the chance to express themselves. Soft skills are the most important skill one should have because you will always have to deal with people. Therefore at Money Tree, we train people to express themselves. We encourage the students to voice out their opinions and also to be brave to present their ideas in any situation.
He is one of the confirmed speakers that will be attending our convention.
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE LOCAL GRADUATES IN MALAYSIA,
AND
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE?
I'd been working in Malaysia for nearly two years. Along the way, Ive met humble but ambitious young Malaysians. However, Ive found out that most of the local graduates who came to the interview are lack of confident. I could see the potential in them, and I know that they can excel. Yet, they normally dont perform well during the interview, and sometimes they tend to be too modest. Thus, my advice for them, show what you have, dont be too modest, and dont be too humble.
KPMG is a global network of professional firms providing Audit, Tax and Advisory services. They operate in 144 countries and have 137,000 people working in member firms around the world. KPMG first established a presence in Malaysia in 1928 and the Malaysian firm has grown to be a part of the global success of KPMG's network of firms. KPMG's operations in Malaysia are carried out in association with KPMG Desa Megat & Co. The Malaysian firm now has 67 partners and approximately 1,700 staff located across 10 offices
In my opinion, the local graduates are as competent as the foreign graduates. Local graduates developed their soft skills such as leadership and networking by organizing and involving in projects and activities from their respective universities.
Moreover, I believe both local and foreign graduates enjoy equal opportunities in their career life. This is because in the process of recruitment, we do not evaluate the graduates performance base on their institutions, or focus on the CGPA of the graduates alone. We also evaluate the graduates involvement in activities and sports as well. Therefore, the salary paid to both local and foreign graduates are equal.
Today, the qualities we look forward in employees are those who can work in a team, communicate with others well, able to work under pressure and independently, as well as adapt into the society norm easily. It doesnt matter which universities or colleges you came from, what matters the most is your ability to work in a team.
