As communication becomes more prominent, the media influences our everyday lives. Unfortunately, the way they portray body image is, and has been, detrimental to how the public view their own bodies. Self-hate is promoted and seen as normal, while the media reflects all of it in the form of entertainment through the ways in which characters are written in movies, television shows, the commercials and the internet. 

Throughout history, body image has been influenced by what is popular; young people are particularly influenced by what their peers are doing. With sizeism so rampant this day and age, the public's general body image is defined for the masses through media. You can find judgement and critique everywhere you turn. Even if you don't turn on the television or watch movies, the media definitely has a hand in it.
