UCW- review of program from:
02-18-2012- at Sprayberry High School.

I thought the fans were treated to an exceptionally good
Universal Championship Wrestling program. All the matches were good, and as on most cards a couple of matches were outstanding. These are my personal thoughts and opinions on the program.
The opening match with “Hot Like Lava” vs Scotty Mathews and Robert Gibson was an exciting match and got the evening off to a good start as far as fan interest is concerned.
A good win for “Hot Like Lava”
Match # 2, was probably the surprise match of the evening quality wise, it was a 6-man Tag-Team match featuring the team of: Steven Stiles, Chris Jacobs, and Deon Johnson going up against the team of Von Gruber and the team of K.C.P.
You had 6 young and inexperienced wrestlers going out there and giving it every ounce of energy they could muster up.
In my opinion it was on of the better matches on the card, and a good win for Stiles, Jacobs and Johnson.
Match # 3. The Barbarian vs Tommy Daniels who was no match for Barbarian but gave it everything he had, it was just obvious he didn’t have nearly enough to overcome the size, strength, and experience difference.
Match # 4. ‘The King” Shane Williams vs Chase Stevens, two young well conditioned athletes that went at it as if their entire career depended on the outcome of that match, Stevens won the match but I think we will hear a lot more from Shane Williams in the near future.
Match # 5. Chris Hamrick vs El Veterano, a Mexican Sensation that dazzled the crowd with one spectacular move after another to gain the victory.
Match # 7. Johnny Swinger vs Lodi, Lodi has a crowd pleasing entrance and they had a good match with Swinger coming out on top.
Match # 7. Buff Bagwell and Scott Steiner vs Brodie Chase and Luke Gallows, managed by Johnny Fairplay. The biggest pop in the match came with the introduction of Bagwell’s buddy and current Sprayberry Football Coach, brought into the match to counteract Johnny Fairplay, Coach did a great job and pitched Fairplay into the security rail as Bagwell and Steiner took a fall on Chase. A good match and the fans enjoyed watching “Coach” work the outside of the ring like an old pro.
Its my honest opinion that this was another in the ever growing
Line of excellent and consistently good wrestling events promoted by Ronnie Gossett, owner of UCW.
These shows are certainly the best independent shows you will find anywhere, and to be brutally honest with you, I think these shows are better “WRESTLING” shows than either WWE or TNA.
I’m talking about the quality of the content of the shows being better.
The thoughts and opinions expressed here are mine and are unsolicited.
Well here’s the first installment of my new column “Justified”. I promise to shoot from the hip and tell it like it is, and you can be guaranteed that every word I say will be “Justified”.
After sitting back and watching the first few shows of the UCW wrestling product since the bold restart by owner Ronnie Gossett, I must admit………it’s about damn time!!!
Georgia is a hotbed for professional wrestling, has been since Ted Turner built his cable empire on Georgia Championship Wrestling every Saturday evening at 6:05pm on TBS. Gossett and UCW seem to have a finger on the pulse of the true wrestling fans. Mixing hard fought matches, charismatic superstars, and family entertainment to put together a great show that all wrestling fans are sure to love, what’s not to love about this product?
In this first column I’m going to take a look at the current group of superstars in UCW. I’m putting all the wrestlers’ right in my crosshairs and shooting from the hip to tell it like it is.
I’ll start with Buff “the Stuff” Bagwell, this superstar can carry the mail. A main eventer on any show, Buff adds charisma, technical wrestling skill, and a great build to put in or near the top of any list. Depending on whether Buff attacks by going on the offensive taking the direct approach or lays back and see’s who wants a piece of the “Stuff”, will determine how the pecking order falls in regard to the UCW Universal Championship. I personally hope Buff stays a fan favorite, the people truly relate to Buff the “Stuff” Bagwell.
Next let’s take a look at Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner. He is a true powerhouse and a top contender. Scott has been facing all the top talent, not backing down from anyone; another enigmatic personality that can easily go from fan favorite to hated bad guy at the drop of a hat. Steiner is well known for his hot temper and explosive personality. The man with the largest arms in professional wrestling is a force to be reckoned with.
Now let’s move to the big men, and shooting from the hip as I do let’s face it, professional wrestling was built on big men and today that is still true. I’m going to group Luke Gallows and Mike Knox into one category because both big men are over 6’7” and over 300lbs. Both big men are coming into UCW straight from the WWE. Both are big, bad, mean men. Both are outstanding talents. Neither will ever win a catch as catch can contest but then again, nobody wants to stand toe to toe and duke it out with either. Both are number one contenders or if they choose they could rule the tag team scene.
Next up The Great American Scream Machine, Brodie Ray Chase. Chase is a veteran from WCW, WWE and NWA Championship Wrestling. Chase may be the smartest wrestler in the UCW ranks. He’s in great shape and his wrestling skill is unparalleled. Chase is a master manipulator which may be his strongest asset. If given the opportunity to form an alliance with any of the other main event contenders the group could become unstoppable. However, without an alliance he is a number one heavy weight championship contender.
Moving on to Chase Stevens. Since coming to UCW the former tag team specialist has set out on a promising singles career and has been quite impressive. His understated size and technical wrestling skill has elevated this superstar into the main event picture. Chase has the charisma and attitude to challenge anyone at anytime. His good looks have stolen the hearts of our female UCW fans, but his bad boy attitude may prevent Stevens from becoming an all around fan favorite.
I’m going to wrap up the singles division with Lodi. A former member of Raven’s Flock, Lodi has forged ahead and made a name for himself. He is always in top condition and is quite the technical wrestler. Lodi certainly has what it takes to be a champion in his own right…however Lodi may not possess the mean streak that it takes to become a UCW champion. A true champion will do whatever it takes to become a champion but he will do even more to keep it. If Lodi finds the proverbial “mean streak” he will have no limits.
A wild card in this mix may be this weeks signing of Matt Hardy. Formerly of WWE and TNA Wrestling, everybody knows the Hardy name and anyone that has seen Matt perform knows he raises the bar here at UCW.
With all this excitement in UCW Wrestling I haven’t touched the tag team scene or talked about the great teams in this division such as Rock and Roll Express, Hot Like Lava, and many more, nor have I discussed superstars like Johnny Swinger, The King Shane Williams, Steven Stiles, Chris Jacobs, Deon Johnson, Von Gruber, K.C.P., Tommy Daniels, Chris Hamrick, El Veterano, Micah Taylor, and many many more.
I guess you UCW wrestling fans need to stay tuned because more and more superstars are signing with UCW every day. Make sure when UCW comes to your town you don’t miss one second of the action. As you can tell by reading this and experiencing the excitement, UCW is the place to be. Stay tuned for new “Justified” columns in the weeks ahead.
